For those of you on a budget (or just finishing college) give Van Heusen slim-fit shirts a try. I'm 5'9 and 130 pounds (I wear a 14-14.5 x 32/33), and they fit wonderfully right off the rack. At about $25 they are inexpensive to boot!

i just picked up an H&M 2 ply twill white point collar shirt, And it's the best fitting dress shirt i have ever worn. I cannot think of any changes to improve the fit and the quality is MUCH better than the usual H&M stuff. They are priced at $40 and come in various fabrics (like herringbone) in 2 ply. I recommend them.

I agree that the fit on H&M slim-fit shirts is outstanding. Be careful, though: they shrink quite a bit on the first wash/dry.

I have a large drop and I've always had problems finding shirts that didn't billow out at the waist. A while ago I placed an order with Joe Hemrajani through http://www.mytailor.com after reading about the operation in a number of places. I used self-supplied measurements and made a note in the comments box specifically requesting a slim, tapered fit. I got the shirt today and out of the bag it fit just as well as OTR shirts that I've had slimmed down by a tailor. Mine only cost $79.

Success!

The only downside is that it did take a while for the shirt to get here, but if you're not in a rush then I'd recommend it.

I was looking at those a few weeks ago wondering if they were actually slim or not. I will check them out.

I think it depends on your neck size. If you have a normal-size neck they'd be a good cheap buy. I've had a few of them, but my neck is pretty large compared to the rest of my body, so the fit, while better than average non-slim shirts, wasn't that great.

I'll echo what Philsoph said, it all depends on your neck size. In my case they look fantastic.

Granted I'm sure they could still use some taking in (tapering?), but they are 1 million times better than any other sub $50 shirts I've tried!

Barba shirts have been reviewed as slim...but there are some Barba shirts that do NOT look to slim on the model.

At least it has a gazillion pictures of shirts and will give you an idea on how tapered the shirts look like as opposed to just being folded nicely.
