I honestly think there's a fair argument either way (e.g. FSU blowout or closer than expected). Yeah, the numbers support the possibility that FSU could absolutely crush Miami, but we're talking about college football, which is so entertaining partially because things like rivalry games can defy stats-based expectations. Plus, FSU isn't exactly immune to choking.

So, yeah, there's not a chance in hell I'd take Miami straight-up, but the line right now is FSU -21.5. I'm not a gambling man, but, if I were, Miami and the points would be very, very tempting.

Well yeah, i mean, they can blow them out and still not cover the spread.

Also, the one thing I always hate (literally hate, not "literally) is when dudes are like "well FSU is known to choke" (not hating on you MrG...at least not this time). It is Platonic Form of a fallacious argument. This program is vastly different from Bowden's (it's only the same in that the institution is still there) they are better coached, clearly more focused etc. Plus, the teams change every four years. Anyway I've had enough posts about stupid sports fallacies in multiple threads in multiple websites this week so I'm going to take a breather and debate putting the n00b for this threak on ignore.

No. You missed the point. There is no evidence at all to suggest that Miami could keep it close. Literally literally, not "literally" none. The only evidence there is suggests FSU will win handily. Sorry if that's difficult for you to comprehend.

Got it. Why bother playing, right?

I wonder if you felt that way for the 2002 game? Similar situations - FSU was heavily outmatched, Miami clear #1 team in the country...loaded...and it came down to a missed FG. There was no reason why they should be in it. You can find other examples throughout the rivals' history. If I need to tell you that then I have to wonder how old you are.

edina, you're pathetically sensitive about such discussions.

I know, it is a recent development too. I hate it.

Your quoted post has very little to do with mine. No where did I use the word "choke", for example. I merely pointed out that there have been a few times in the series' history where an overmatched team almost beat the other team. That happens al the time in CFB - are you implying that because this year is "different" that FSU is incapable of losing to an overmatched team? If so, kudos to you for telling yourself that.

I will be here after the game, regardless of outcome, so you know. FSU should win but I think Miami can make it a competitive game. We. Shall. See.:teach:

Let's see, FSU goes to Clemson and we know how that turned out.

Miami is heading to Tallatrashee, is nowhere near as good as Clemson was, the defense has some serious deficiencies (just ftr, FSU is #2 in overall defense and then there's Jameis)... yeah, your analysis makes sense.[/quote]

By all accounts, Oklahoma was supposed to crush Texas this year. Look how well that turned out. **** happens all the time. Unless you're a Nick Saban Alabama team the past few years. They seem to be above it.

Predictions are fun and some people are pretty darn good at making them, but ultimately we can insist something is going to happen until we're blue in the face and then watch everything go wrong on any given Saturday. Such is the magic of football. That, and everyone will have some hindsight explanation of why they were wrong or how they knew they were right all along.

How many Miami fans does it take to change a tire?

Just one--unless it's a blowout, then they all show up.
