I thought the same thing. There are so many more newsworthy things to be reported and someone actually spent time to work on this.
The thing that gets me with articles and studies like this is that they seem to proceed on the premise that homosexuality is one cohesive, blanket thing such that "lesbians tend to be obese" actually makes sense. Within homosexuality (whether lesbians or gay men) are radically divergent groups that have been lumped together as non-straight because that was the easiest way to group them. Truly butch lesbians, butch-acting lesbians, and women who look like any other woman but who just happen to like other women are all lumped together into one group, but wouldn't respond to any survey in the same way. So, I wonder if the respondents of this survey tended to be a particular lesbian lifestyle (probably one more overt in her identity as a lesbian) and then got extrapolated to be the whole population.
