But not costing you friends.  Thanks for the vote by the way; I'm a little disappointed at the turnout form the Nigerian brothers, if I'm honest...

For this challenge, I posted exactly what I wore on Friday.  I have a lot of shoes.  I think many of them would have looked better with my Friday challenge outfit.  I didn't change my shoes for the post, because I didn't wear those shoes on Friday.  I'm wondering if changing my shoes or any other garment would have been ok i.e. can I just make up a challenge outfit and wear it for 15 minutes to take picture or does it have to be something I actually wore outside.

AAS, I show what I actually wore. In fact, this week's pictures were taken in the parking garage at my office.

I'm sure most people do.  I guess it's an ethical question.  No one would know if I changed my shoes, but me.  I'm just curious if it is acceptable.

I guess it depends on how seriously one takes these contests. For me, that's a bridge too far.

This challenge produced a lot of above-average outfits, the WAYWRN-thread looked so much better! Well done!

AAS, got it. I never wear something just for a pic and then change into something else.

Info though wear my challenge fits earlier in the week sometimes. And I try and say when I do.

Tril, I guess I cant make fun you on this. Bummerz.

The fit is great, the colours are spot on for the season, and the overall effect is certainly elegant to my eye. I suppose if I were creating an archetype of elegance, I would lengthen the sleeve lengths slightly & tuck the hanky in more. Was that what you were thinking of, or something else? If so, I feel we'd lose something of the man's personal character in favour of a less impressive clothing ideal. IOW, the higher elegance in this case comes from that 5% of individual choice, added to the 95% of orthodoxy.

I usually tend to agree with a lot of your posts/thinking (or at the very least, can grasp your position), so I'm curious as to what you're picking up in Vaux's fit here.

BTW, anyone who wanted to win this contest should have scheduled a black tie event for last Friday; the inbuilt cultural associations of that outfit with elegance would have probably automatically netted them a vast number of votes, provided the outfit fit moderately correctly.

I agree. I was certainly not saying that all the fits were bad at all, most were perfectly acceptable, it's just that 'true elegance' for me is quite a high bar to set and I don't think anyone got there this time. It was a tough challenge, which I don't think I would have achieved either had I been able to take part.

The cut and fit of Vaux's suit was as usual almost flawless (he's one of the few of the real old guard still left here, and in addition he can probably afford to have it right every time), but I just didn't like the tie colour and felt it gave an impression of being a bit washed out. That's all. Really a matter of personal taste. It was the fit I put highest on my list in terms of elegance. Pingson did simple very well. I liked Butler's fit and TTO's too as it happened, although both were just a bit too showy for how I read this challenge, and several others too including Sugarbutch, who as I've said several times here is one of the most reliably solid dressers on the forum.

Although I'm not threatening to win, I think this is my best vote total to date. I'll take it.
