Apparel Arts Project Classic Style Magazine

In the last issue of Classic Style magazine there was an article on Apparel Arts. Within the article reference is made to someone in London who is trying to digitalize all the Apparel Arts magazines from 1932-1950 and make them publicly available.

Does anyone know how far along this project is? (I also wonder if it is legal or if there are copyright issues). I'd love to have online access to all those books.

What a great idea. Who's doing this? Tutee and Alden, perhaps?

This has been interweb gossip for some time now. I, too, hope that it comes to fruition through either a website or a book. I think that Getty Images or one of the others that will do prints on demand ought to buy the back catalog of Saalberg and other plates. I would love to be able to pay $35-75 to get a nice giclee or inkjet print on archival paper that is suitable for framing. I bet that I am not alone in that. All that said, neither Tutee nor Alden is in London, AFAIK. Alden may have multiple domiciles, however...

Alden's been in Sicily as of late, but I'm quite sure he lived/worked in London for some time.

He is apparently an estate hunter.

Alden made his money somewhere doing something vague, but lives in Paris, IIRC. He does shop in London and may have a home there as well. Didn't know that you and he were tight, Connie...

Someone--an Italian I recall--linked an article that had a Michael Alden hunting out old estates for some sort of company.

Any news on this?

With old pulp magazines and comics getting scanned over these past few years, I thought some people would have just scanned these old magazines and made them available online. It wouldn't be stylish, of course...

I doubt there is that much demand.

The Apparel Arts Project  Well Gents.  Allow me to introduce myself,  My name is Carlossee' Santiago Oliva DeJesus Casanova Lumpkin (Latino, what can I say).  I am a 50 year old bon vivant and given to nostalgia with a modern twist.  I have access to all of the apparel Arts archive and it is my plan to photograph (scanning is not possbile as the bindings will be damaged) and make available each and every issue.  There are no copyright issues to speak of and I will make the magazines available each month by emectronic flipbook or by hard-copy with no ACTUAL swatches.  The first magazine will be available starting the first of MAY 2012.  For info on how to get yours contact me.
