I usually only eat once a day and that is what i buy myself at the local shopping center, which is usually a McDonalds meal or a Pizza. Is there exercises/easy to follow diet that I can use to shed the excess body fat. And approximately how long would it take to do?

You have a huge advantage right now. You're 16. The right decision made today will have an enormous payoff later in life.

Assuming you don't have gynecomastia (if you feel hard tissue under your nipples you may want to see a doctor) all you need to do is what 16 year olds have been doing for ages. Play. Pick a sport or hobby and spend your time OUTSIDE.

You eat like shit, but kids your age can eat like shit and still put on muscle. The last thing you need is a diet; you need more food. Better food if you can, but calories should be your goal as long as they're coupled with physical activity.

Lifting will do wonders for you as long as you're somewhat smart about it. The person who advised you to work your chest to lose breast fat is wrong. I would look for a powerlifting gym or group and throw yourself at their feet. Getting strong will be a huge mental boost for you and with strength comes size.

Good luck,

lefty

I saw that one! The wager was that he would keep them for a year, and I think he followed through and kept them even longer. I forgot how much the wager was for.

They were magnificent, and - of course - fake.

The fast food and the eating one meal a day is the worst problem I'd say. (oh yeah, that pic above is just freaking wrong!) Play some sports or something, why not walk home instead of wait for the bus? Stay out of the mall

Check out www.crossfit.com and also do some basic google'ng on the Zone diet. I'd go with changing your eating habits to more of a Zone type diet. Get yourself set into good habits now. Don't worry too much about how your body looks, if you eat better food, and more often, as well as do some well rounded excersise your body will come around quickly.

Age 16 is early for man boobs. Be sure you're not using any shampoo/soap/product with tea tree oil or lavendar oil, both of which contribute to man boobs in teens.

Eating well requires more time and more money and smaller portions.

At around your age, my son went from a size 38 to a size 34 with very little effort on his part, just some discipline.

He decided to kick the junk food. He stopped eating ramen noodles and pizzas and started making proper pasta meals, even to the extent of making his own pasta from scratch. He eats jellied lollies instead of chocolate for the occasional treat (hi sugars, but low fat) and protein drinks for brekky instead of cereal. He has taught himself to say "no" to rubbish, even to the extent of opting out when we have take-away. He will typically have 4 small meals a day, with the big one being a pasta and tomato-based sauce meal in the mid-afternoon.

He participates in the usual school sports, but nothing extra-curricular. That and walking to and from the bus stop every day gives him all the exercise he needs to keep from gaining weight.

He is slim but not sculpted. He'll never get a 6-pack this way, and he may well have a bit of a gut, but he could lose it simply by doing a bit more aerobic exercise rather than making wholesale changes.

Based on what I've seen from him, I would say your first priority is to break your junk-food habit. It won't be easy, as the salts and fats in those meals leave you wanting more. Substitute them with filling meals that are high-fibre and with lean protein like chicken and fish. Eat smaller meals, and more often.

Do exercise - any exercise. Try a few different things and settle on what you like and can work into your day. Be prepared to change your program occasionally to stave off boredom.

For the chest area, there are a host of exercises you can easily do. Remember you are trying to achieve two things: build up the chest muscles (i.e. weights) and lose the flab that covers them up (i.e. diet and fat-burning exercise). You have to tackle both.

Excess fat during puberty affects male/female hormone levels.
Fat=More Estrogen for a man.
Man-boobs could be dealt only with surgery. They might shrink from exercise, but you will not be able to attain a normal pectoral until you have a surgery. It is fairly common problem in overweight men and usually covered by insurance.

Run! Run! Run! Do lots of running, cardio work. Running is a really decent way to burn calories and it makes you feel great too afterwards, which is a plus. I'd advise you to do a decent sized run a few times a week and you should definately see a difference.

Eating once a day isn't too good for you either, try and make sure you eat breakfast, lunch and tea (and nutritious food, not McDonalds). I'm sure if you did that, lots of running, and kept the calorie intake quite low for a while you'll see results.

I know all of that has probably already been said, but I thought I'd add my thoughts anyway.

In terms of exercise, aerobic alone isn't a good way to lose weight. Running outdoors in Australia isn't a good idea for a fair-skinned person. Long walks - same problem. Short walks are good for beginners, but hardly promote weight loss. Swimming doesn't hurt, but it has been found to also be unimpressive for weight loss. Ultimately, though, pick something safe and healthy that you enjoy. That will make you stick with it.

I also have the same problem as Conne had. No matter how slim I get, the boobs stay. I'm 19 now and have had them since I was in the 5th grade. Before then, I was a stick and my chest was flat. I've been getting by since the 9th grade by wearing a very tight undershirt which flattens it kind of, but it still shows. I tried all kinda of pec excersises with no result. I'm pretty sure it's actual breast tissue, but I'm not going through surgery! I'm not one for pain, I'll just stick with my slimming undershirts....though it does suck that I have turn down going to beaches and waterparks due to this. Oh well.....

In terms of diet:

I would disagree with those saying to eat less. If you only eat once a day, you are clearly not getting enough nutrition. Eat 5 times a day (eating small meals more often keeps the metabolism going). Eat a lean protein (egg whites or chicken breast) with a dense green (spinach, kale, etc.). I would eat no carbs. (I did this regimen and lost 3" in 3 months working with a personal trainer doing intense workouts) If this it too dramatic, ease into it by making small changes weekly.

In terms of exercise:
I would say to find a sport or activity you like. You will be more likely to stick with it if you are not into going to the gym.

If you dont have a sport, ask yourself what kind of body do you want? A runners? A swimmers? A bodybuilder? Then educate yourself on that sport and do it.
I could recommend my regimen, but it might not suit you (a mix of martial arts and weight training).

In general, do cardio in the am within an hour of waking up and eat your first meal immediately after. Eat another meal every 2-3 hours. Dont eat past 9pm because it is more likely to turn to fat when you eat close to bedtime.

Some decent articles - http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bbmainnut.htm

Also, crossfit is a great site but seems to be more geared to improving athletic performance and fitness than to weight loss specifically.

Finally, give it time and be patient. It will take months but its worth it when you start getting the compliments!

Go jogging either on a treadmill or outdoors for 30 minutes at least 3 times a week, I can personally guarantee your man-boobs gone in 3 months.

run, go surfing, do pushups, bench press, leg lifts, sit-ups, crunches etc;

Running is high impact but it works really fast and for a 16 year old I wouldn't worry about joint problems.

As far as endurance start out small, like 1/2 mile or whatever you can do non stop without killing yourself, you should be able to do 1 mile at your age. Then just run this distance 4 times a week for 2 weeks. Then add some distance, maybe 1/4 mile and repeat for another 2 weeks. Your goal is 3 miles. Once you can run 3 miles then start working on time. A good goal is to be able to run 3 miles in 18-21 minutes. You should be able to do all of this in about 6 months..Hell when I was 17 I did it in 3 months.
