Hello all,

My first post so hope my etiquette is in order. I have a wedding to go to next month and so far I have a few ingredients but want to check what you stylish types think. So, I have a dark Navy fine pinstripe ( subtle not a bold pinstripe). I am going to team this with Tan brogues, White shirt, brass cufflinks and tie bar. I have a knitted Olive silk tie and a striped (Red and White) Navy Wool tie. I also have a Navy with Ivory polka dot pocket square. My question is, Can I wear my striped tie with a polka dot pocket square if they are of similar tones? Or is it better to go with Olive knitted silk tie with a White square????

Help!

Cheers
Tom

I personally would stick to solid ties if you're wearing a pinstripe suit. Be careful of having too much patterns.

Also, I would avoid wearing tan brogues with dark navy suits as there will be too much contrast between the two items. I'd opt for dark brown or burgundy shoes instead. I have walnut McCallisters that don't go well with my dark navy suit so I know how tan shoes would look when worn with a dark colored suit.

If you want people to advise you better, please include pictures so we can have an idea of what you're going for.

Thanks Edward! Looks like I might have to buy new shoes :( - I also agree with the solid colour tie - but could that be a solid Olive knitted tie?

Hmm, I don't know if I personally would wear an olive knit tie with a dark navy suit as I think that's too casual of a tie to be worn with a dark suit. Though certainly it's not a great sin.

This is "OK" since he has (what seemingly to be cotton) a lighter blue suit on, which is more casual and therefore, looks good with the tie.

If you're still not familiar with colors, I would advise to stick with colors that are known to go well with navy suits.

Here's an example from a recent WARYWRN:

Especially for weddings, I prefer to wear basic accessories with my suit since I don't want to take the attention away from the groom. So basic white pocket square and a solid tie would work wonders in my opinion.

Again, I have no idea how your suit or tie looks like so I'm basically relying on my imagination alone here.
