I tend to divert my eyes so others will have observed it more closely than I.

I quite like that look, and agree with your observations: pinstripe (or sometimes chalkstripe or even ropestripe) with anything from a microcheck right up to a gingham (plus sometimes a bold tie too) is definitely "a thing" as you put it earlier. But, the suit typically has a very dark background (navy or charcoal), and the shoes are black. So, the focus of colour/pattern frenzy is very limited to around the tie/shirt in the small visible area between the lapels (and the suit is often enough a 3B or DB, reducing that space further). In a way, my outfit for this contest was quite influenced by that concept (though amped up more than you would typically see with the choice of a particularly large gingham, in an atypical colour).

Any ideas for this Friday folks?
I'm toying with a 'Do it with denim - the jeans & a jacket challenge' but am open to any ideas...of course I am VERY happy to relinquish the rains if some one else gets a few more votes in before midnight!

I vote something that is not styleforum groupthink approved and would therefore be a greater challenge such as something involving black suits or just black in general,
I think denim+sportcoat challenge would be a good one but a slightly boring one
A loungewear challenge would be interesting like smoking jackets silk robes ect.
Or since blue/navy is such as universally praise color it would be cool to see an "all blue everything" challenge...

 How about a "Thrift" Challenge?

(I could be in that) lol

Require suede.. or two certain colors like burgundy and grey.

I can definitely participate in the suede. Lol.
