Where does Gilded Age get off - Page 3

I can't believe people are asking so much for lounge suits now..it just seems like MADNESS to shell out that much for SUITS that are made for WORKING AT A DESK IN. I guess in some cases you are buying top-notch construction and longevity, but...it just seems excessive. But I guess everything is worth what the purchaser will pay for it (see look at that I am reasonable. Oh man am I tempted to make an anti-semetic joke right now).

I ain't Jewish, buddy. So fire away...it's all collateral damage anyhow. I dunno - jeans is jeans. You can be a snarky little prat all you like, but it doesn't change the fact that you face SEVERE diminishing returns with spending $$$ on jeans. I mean, there are some fucking NICE $200 jeans. How many non-denim-heads can tell the difference between a $500 Samurai repro(or whatever, FITB), and regular old Levis? And spending retail on those jeans is crazy. Whereas, a bespoke suit LOOKS bespoke - even ignorant bystanders are often struck by how well-dressed a man in a good suit looks. Obviously its possible to waste crazy money, but the labor, construction, materials, and artisanship going into a suit far exceed jeans $$.. But by all means, spend as much as you like on jeans - my comments are directed towards myself and as such don't need your precious little farce to substantiate themselves. If I had to guess, you're feeling a little insecure because of the amount of money you personally have spent on your denim hobby. But whatever floats your boat, man. At least its not cocaine. Or John Lobb shoes, god forbid. I'm too busy inflitrating the International Zionist EntityTM

And you're how much older than me? If it's less than 10 years buddy, then I reserve the right to be As Snarky As I Wanna Be. And really, who doesn't need 17 pairs of unwashed denim in their closet? I think it's an investment.

I read this line of thought (esp on AAAC from old geezers) and I don't get why guys (esp like you, in your 20s) still think of denim as "workwear" that you're supposed to only wear when mining, farming, working on a construction site etc(???)

and I def don't buy the argument that a bespoke suit is worth its cost moreso than denim. Same with high end denim, I think you're giving way too much credit to "guys in the office" that are just going to recognize the awesomeness of someone's bespoke suit. I'm sorry but "ignorant bystanders" are more likely to be impressed by someone's Hugo Boss suit than something off the Row.

and I'll never understand the commotion that goes on when discussing someone else's spending habits. If he has it, and wants to blow it on _____, more power to him.

See Here, Heathen Peasants, this is the new HUGO BOSS 5-Button suit. It will blow ANYTHING else right out of the water! What is this Huntsman business that you speak of? Well lookie here, mine has TWO more buttons! You don't see that kind of construction on a "Hunter," dooooo you? QUEUE UP, SINGLE FILE! NO SHOVING THERE'S ENOUGH FOR EVERY-BODY!

Gilded Age, AFAIK, is a company started by Adriano Goldshmeid, whom, I think it's fair to say, has developed his name and reputation in the clothing industry.

Whether it's enough to justify their prices is another story altogether, but they aren't just a noname company out of leftfield. Besides, I'd imagine that Barney's buyers are researched enough that they wouldn't just sell any label who happens to charge $800 for a sweater.

Hey, I think some established brands such as DSquared make absolute trash that they sell for outrageous prices.

Capitalism. . .

Hey - I don't knock anyone's spending habits? $100,000 on a watch, a suit, a pair of jeans, a black leather dildo - like I said, whatever floats your boat. I just said FOR ME.

Don't jump my throat - I didn't start with the snark.

Also I'm a young 'un, geezer - a sprightly 20. But I'm an ancient, bitter old man inside.

Sounds like an investment in having a really stanky smelling closet.

Oh man, I totally saw not one but TWO of those on the ferry this weekend. Full-on five-button, black suits, with 6 cuff buttons, reverse pleats, and square-toed rubber soled Kenneth Cole ripoff loafers.

Does HB in fact make such travesties? I would be shocked - they seem too conventional.

Whether you think it's a gimmick or not, Gilded Age charge so much for their jeans because they dye their denim with 100% natural indigo (as in, from the actual indigo plant). There aren't more than 2 or 3 other companies which use this technique, and Studio d'Artisan is one of them. So, as far as I can tell, this answers the OP's question (to the best of my ability, anyway).
There's maybe more than 40 companies selling jeans made with natural indigo. 45RPM, Kapital, Triple Works, Sugar Cane, Big John...
You can get natural indigo jeans from Gun (Artist Denim) for just of $200 shipped and custom details

That has to be the funniest necropost ever.
