Dark Blue Tuxedo Jacket - Slack Options

Thread Starter

I recently purchased a JP Tilford Samuesohn dark(navy) blue tuxedo jacket with black lapels from Nordstrom.   Please give me your opinion(s) regarding wearing this dark blue dinner jacket with black formal tuxedo pants.  I am pretty sure i wont be able to find the exact matching pants(if they exist).   I have attached pics

If you don't have the pants that go with it, black is probably the next best option. The fact that it has black lapels makes it work.

Can you return it? You basically bought half of a tuxedo.

+1 to this. If OP had enough sense to return it, then he wouldn't have bought it to begin with. I gave a suggestion, but this is definitely the best option.

Hmm this is a tough one. I would say that returning it would probably be the best option you have. Black pants will work but it may look as good as you would have hoped. Other options would be to go and get specially made pants to match the color, but this options will be pricey. It depends on how much you really love the top part and whether you are willing to spend some cash on having matching pants made. Good luck and I hope you figure it out!

I don't really think wearing this with a black pair of pants is going to work. There is not enough contrast. Odd dinner jackets are fine in some situations, but are rarely midnight blue.

I saw a guy wearing dark charcoal trousers with black satin on the seams and it looked pretty cool.  Not sure it would work in this context (the fellow I saw was wearing a black velvet type of jacket with the trou).

This sounds pretty awful IMO, especially with respect to the OP. It'd be like wearing a blazer and greys but with a bunch of black satin on it.

You only have 8 posts. Don't worry; you'll grow out of it.

8 posts, but 37 years of wearing clothes :). It was well executed.  I wouldn't do it myself, but that isn't the point.  The OP asked about different options for his orphaned dinner jacket.

I think wearing this dark blue dinner jacket with black formal tuxedo pants, provided that both satin silk materials are fairly identical, is appropriate for a gala party.

Cheers,

^ Was it really necessary to bump a thread that was six months old for a one sentence post?
