Which shoe should i get

Thread Starter

Hello all, this is my first post on SF. Been lurking around the forums for a few months now, mainly around the WIWT and shoe threads.

Right now I'm looking for a shoe that's good enough for formal wear (I'm still a student). AE isn't going to make it for me as their shoes are priced rather high and also shipping cost would make it not worthwhile.

Hence, I've narrowed my options to a few shoes and I need your opinions on them. My main concern now is the fit (especially width wise, I have flat foot) as I've never bought shoes online before.

My foot size (drawn on paper and measured) is 4.4 inches wide and 10.77 inches in length. I wear about 10.5US now and have a size 44 Birkenstock sandals, so I think the measurements are about right. I've tried Clarks DB at a local store and I fit into size 9.

Some shoe I'm considering now are:

Loake 1880 (Strands/Aldywch/Churchill)

Herring Classic (Knightsbridge/Hampstead)

Meermin 101198 Dark Brown Calf

Meermin 12153 Dark Brown Calf

Herring Classic and Meermin Classic isn't discussed as much as the Loakes 1880 on the web so I was looking to get some insights for them from anyone that has experience with them.

Shipping from Meermin isn't very practical though as it's 40 pounds for 1 or 2 shoes and I'm only looking to get one.. which would make getting Herring Classics/Loakes 1880 and Meermin cost around the same total.

Based on your descriptions a nice pair of classic comfortable Goodyear shoes would do for you.

Santoni has among the best quality and reputation for such shoes, I enclosed a photo for you here, perhaps you may be interested:

do you have any advice for the fitting of shoes?

HerringShoes did reply suggesting to get a 9/9.5F, I'm not sure if that's normal. Don't wanna end up with a pair of shoes I can't wear =\

the shoes you posted looks really good! doubt i can afford it though

Santoni fit's one size large..for example a 9 would be a 10.

Not many retailers in the US carry these shoes and if they do are the same classic models.

Lordmidas.com has pretty cool products, modern and rare.
