Hi, first time poster to this site over here.

How should I care for a pair of Allen Edmonds Aberdeens, dark brown grain? I ordered a pair in a size 10 D online and they should be arriving early next week. Thing is, I need to order myself the proper tools to care for them before I should even think about wearing them outdoors. I don't have any brushes, creams or polishes right now, seeing as how I've been wearing more disposable shoes over the years.

I'm thinking of getting the Full Toe shoe tree made by AE, and some brand of leather lotion for basic conditioning and maintenance. I'm not sure what to get for protection against water damage, though, of if the lotion or type of leather necessitates buying anything more like polish. No clue whether a single large horsehair brush is enough or a large and a small one instead. Any tips or advice on what tubes or tins of what I should buy to keep those beauties lasting for years to come would be really appreciated. Mold me, gentlemen!

That's just the thing though, the product page recommends using just leather lotion and a soft cloth, while the chart recommends the leather cleaner/conditioner with no mention of the lotion. I only have one shot to condition and protect these shoes before wearing them, so I want to make sure I get the exact order and types of product just right. Getting a lot of mixed messages, to be honest.

Should I use the lotion before I wear them? Should I buy cleaner/conditioner instead and use it every third Tuesday but only if it's a full moon? I'm a complete amateur at this, in case you couldn't tell, so grain leather care 101 would be a huge boon.
