Well I lived in both cities and that's my honest opinion.

As an aside, I avoided reading this site for the longest time because I figured everyone on an internet style forum must have unpleasant attitudes like our banker friend. It was a nice surprise to find some decent gentleman instead.

I didn't have time to sift through all 9 pages, but this made it to Leveraged Sell-out (hysterical, satirical blog about i-banking if you've never read it). The gawker post it links to is also pretty funny. People have way too much time on their hands, myself included.

This is funny and deadly accurate at the same time:

Quote:
Suit: Hickey Freeman suit, $2,749 (+1 for overpaying). “I have about 10 suits and usually buy them at Hickey Freeman and Paul Stuart (+1). I have two really heavy pin-stripe suits that I’d classify as ‘power suits.’ Bankers never wear double-breasted suits, it’s a fashion faux pas (+1 for French). I get all of my suits tailored in Rochester, N.Y (-2 for going somewhere north of 86th street that’s not The Hamptons). There is a Romanian couple that have been doing my father’s suits for years. They are trusted in the family, and 10 times better than any of the tailors I’ve used in the city.” (We know that family: Ionescu. All the legit tailors in that lineage are still in Romania. -5 for not flying them over personally.)

Compare and contrast:

CLOTHES

Banker: Hickey Freeman suit, $2,749. "I have about 10 suits and usually buy them at Hickey Freeman and Paul Stuart."

Doctor: "I don't usually buy my scrubs, I steal them from hospitals - everybody does it. When I buy my scrubs, I get them online at Allheart.com for $10.99."

GROOMING

Banker: "there are shoe-shiners walking around on our floor offering to shine our shoes"

Doctor: "My hair was once too long and a colleague told me to cut it so now I cut it, about every three months at Supercuts in Brooklyn [$15]. I think patients like it better if their doctors are clean-cut. Patients say they like my hair."

TASTES

Banker: puts cigars on his resume

Doctor: 50 cent coffee

Meanwhile, the mechanical engineer is out having a good time.

Dominican place off 88th and Columbus charges $14 with tip

TASTES

Banker: puts cigars on his resume

Doctor: 50 cent coffee

Coffee from my street vendor is now $0.60

Meanwhile, the lawyers are out having a good time.

EDIT: To keep up with the times...
