Hello!
I am lokking for a pair of new shoes. I know it would be safe to go for a pair of black ones, but I want to try something new, and therefore I am considering a brown pair. I have added a photo of my suit:

What do you guys think? Black or brown?
If it helps, I am in in my early twenties and 180 cm (5ft11?) tall.

Because I need to use the shoes in two weeks, I can not order them from a store outside of Norway. Currently I am looking at this internet store: http://www.zalando.no/herresko-pensko/ (to sort shoes on color, click on the drop-down list called "Velg farge").
I would like to not pay more than 1000 kr ($170).

All help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Binders.

Tight budget, but I would recommend looking at Herring Shoes, http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/product-list.php?brandid=6

I think they will be able to deliver to Norway within a week or less, but send them an e-mail to check.

Whenever you have more time to wait, consider also looking at Meermin, http://www.meermin.es/?idioma=eng, but they won't deliver as quickly as you need these particular shoes. (As far as I understand from reading the SF thread on the brand.)

IMO, the shoes at Zalando all look like crap.

Regarding color, what's the occasion? Formal business? If so, I'd say stick with black (and consider a darker suit). If not, I'd pair a light gray like that with walnut rather than a dark brown.

I think black is the best, but because you say brown, then because the suit is a lighter grey, I would have lighter brown shoes. I personally do not like any of the shoes shown on the website because the points on the front of all the shoes is too much.

Black is the safest choice. A tan or walnut color can be great for the summer but is not particularly versatile with darker clothes. I think that medium brown is probably your best bet as it goes nicely with the grey but is also a more versatile color than tan / walnut. I'd concur with the others who advised avoiding the shoes in the link you provided; they do not look particularly nice and will probably not last long.

A sleek black shoe. Depending on the situation, a brown or chestnut coloured shoe might come off as a bit pretentious. Dont peacock at funerals or interviews. A Lobb 7000 last tan shoe, for example, is going to be elegant, but maybe a bit too flashy depending on where you are.

Black is safest of course, but I think you're taking this too far; absent the circumstances you describe, I don't too many people are going to think you're pretentious for wearing brown shoes. They're not exactly uncommon. Naturally a funeral or an interview is not an opportunity to "peacock" but for most circumstances in daily life (maybe outside of London), a medium brown shoe is just fine and will go nicely with that shade of grey.

As I said, I think it's a very elegant look, and a medium brown will go well with that color suit. And yes, for most circumstances I think it's fine. I was just specifying in case this person came here for help with a particular situation, and I didn't want it to go unsaid that if he wears a tan (or AE walnut) to a funeral with a gray suit, it would be a bit off color, if you get my drift and terrible pun. But no i agree completely with what you said.

Thank you so much for your responses!
Obviously, I forgot to mention the occasion. The shoes will be used at an age seremony in church, but I also have an upcomming college graduation event.

I think I might just stick with my black pair for now, and eventually buy another pair later.

Again, thank you so much!
