Should I wear suits for college?

This September, I will be attending a many award winning college. With the college's standard for work being so high, I thought that my appearance should follow. Which is why I want to wear suits for it, daily.

Now most people will be attending in casual, but I can not stand things like joggers, or hoodies or 'onesies' snork[1].gif

Now my normal everyday dress is suits, and I was wondering, aside from being different, is this a bad decision to wear formal to college?

Thanks,

Harvey

Note: My suits are all tailored made, and do not hang like a wizard's sleeve.

Edit: My family are known due to their wealth. I wear suits like they are a second skin. It's who I am. I wear them for non-uniform days at high school. I won't just be wearing suits I'll be wearing, my whole apparel is high end; watches, pens, shoes, coats etc. It will be the whole nine yards.

Forget suits. Invest in a sport jacket or three. One tweed for colder weather, one navy blazer and one Cord or Linen. Others will come to give you their suggestions I hope. Welcome to Styleforum Harvey.

Don't wear suits to college. No matter how impeccable the suits, you'll look ridiculous and will stand out in a bad way as that overdressed and self-serious guy.

Keep it casual on campus and save the suits for elsewhere.

Get some OCBDs, solid color t-shirts, cardigans, chinos, dark jeans, slim simple sneakers, loafers, etc. As long as everything fits well and you're color coordinated, you'll look better than most of your peers.

In college, you just give off a dbag vibe wearing a suit everyday.

Overall advice: Just enjoy college and concentrate on doing well; there's enough time after college for suits everyday.

The only time university students wear suits is when they have job interviews. Do you want to look like you have a job interview every day?

I wear suits everyday anyway, surely I can wear them for college (UK).

Then do what you want. Or are you looking for validation / permission?

Well, it's nice to go to college dressed in something that you wouldn't wear to the gym. However, a suit might be too much. Why not blazers/sportcoats and OCBDs? It's more youthful and less, shall I say, stuck-up.

Harvey, it sounds to me like you have made up your mind and are asking others to try and convince you the opposite.

If you come from a wealthy family and enjoy wearing bespoke suits every day then "whatever floats your boat" as they say. My advice will be to adapt to the environment. If you are the only kid wearing a suit in college then be careful because you may very likely get bullied a lot. Either that or people will create the wrong first impressions about you.

On another note, millions in the bank or not, bespoke or not, I personally would never wear suits everyday (out of work). Way too stiff and rigid and restricted freedom of movement.

You mean sixth form as in UK or college as in US? How old are you?

This makes good sense assuming the OP actually has an open mind.

He's not talking about the American term "college" (i.e., university), he's talking about a type of state high school.

What sort of suits do you wear every day anyway? You do realize there are different types of suit, each intended for different occasions?

If you're so rich, why don't you just go to a private school where wearing suits every day is the norm?

Formal.

Mainly Charlie Allen, some Tom Fords and some Norton & Sons.

Where I want my career to take me will require me to wear formal everyday, so why not get in the swing of it now?
