Buying my first sport coat(s). Are these okay choices?

Hello everyone. I've been looking at the following 2 sport coats from Brooks Brothers for awhile. The are priced very nicely at $268 and will be even less with the up-coming sale. I own 7 diffrent color pairs of Madison fit wool trousers and an assortment of shirts. I was originally going to purchase a navy blazer but they are never really on sale. Would the navy windowpane pictured below be fairly versatile? Is there any particular shirt or pant colors that wouldn't pair well?
The second sport coat isn't as versatile, but I do like the color.
I posted a picture of a Harris Tweed vest that looks like it will pair with many different shirts and trousers.

I appreciate your opinions

I think the navy is the most versatile. But if you already have a bunch of navys, get the brown one.

Agree. Solid navy would be a good first choice. I happen to own the brown "gun club" one you linked. It goes well with chinos and jeans but you're more or less relegated to a solid shirt/tie unless you have a large selection already. Much easier to dress around a solid navy color.

Navy will go with pretty much any trouser that is not navy (or black, but you shouldn't be wearing black trousers anyways). Navy windowpane will definitely be more versatile than the brown and will look a bit more formal. It's not as versatile as a navy blazer, but then nothing really is. A subtle windowpane won't reduce versatility too much IMO.

Not a fan of vests worn without a jacket. Reminds me of hipsters.

Haha I like the vest comment.
I was thinking the same thing about the windowpane. I had my SA order them to the store so I can try them on. I can afford one navy blaze or these 2 sport coats. I have one BB 1818 suit. I want to avoid wearing just short and tie to work. I need to put together a rotation that can be used 5 days a week. I've been considering a Harris Tweed jacket from the Harris Tweed Shop but its tough to decide color from their website.

Here's one that may work better then the second coat I was considering.

Well I decided to splurge and spend the money on a proper navy blazer this week when the sale starts. What other color or style blazers should I consider? I have a Fitgerald Navy suit, I'll have the blazer what else would be versatile? I have been wearing shirt and tie for the most part but I do need to start wearing sport coats and possibly vest. I feel too underdressed especially with my new assignment coming up. Any recommendations on a color and style of Harris Tweed? I would really love to get a tweed jacket I just do t know where I can go and physically look at them. The Harris Tweed Shop in Scotland has some really great looking styles on their websites. I just wish they showed samples of all their colors.

BTW, if you're in "North New Jersey" you should probably take a trip to the Paramus Century 21. It's not as stocked as the NYC C21s, but they usually have a good supply of Hickey Freeman sport coats for around $300. I haven't been to that one in a while but the NYC C21s have a pretty good selection of better brands as well.

Thanks Fred. I'm not too far from there. There is a C21 in Morristown also. That one is really close to me. I always assumed they were like a Kohls! I will have to check them out now for sure!

I'm going to get the navy blazer and maybe this brown Harris Tweed. I'm beginning to think I really need another suit. Charcoal seems to be the next go to color after navy. As I said above I already own one navy suit. In order to save a little money I might look into a Brookscool suit.

Well I don't know if anyone is interested but I went to my BB store today and tried on the jackets and vest I first posted. The windowpane was nice, the brown one fit too snug and the vest wasn't long enough. I decided to go with a solid navy 2 button. Unfortunately they didn't have my soze in stick so it had to be ordered. I also had the Harris Tweed jacket I posted right before this one ordered. If the tweed one looks nice I'll get that along with the navy blazer. Afterwards I walked over to Nordstrom and finally broke down and bough AE Park Avenues. I blew my budget again!

Have been hunting for a blazer recently; however, shifting my hunt to a navy sports coat with patch pockets... I think the warm weather is making my thinking turn towards the casual.
