Billy Reid Disappointing Quality

Hi guys,

I just wanted to start this post to vent on how poor the quality of the Billy Reid Double-Breasted Peacoat and the
Madison Twill Jacket are. They are both made in Italy but this is proof that made in Italy is no longer better than
made in China.

The peacoat received was missing a button (bottom right most button). Most of the other buttons on the front of
the jacket were barely hanging on by the thread. This is ridiculous seeing how they could have just ensured that
more thread was used to hold the buttons on. Quality assurance totally blew it too by allowing such button
attachments to slip through. I have contacted the official retailer as well as sent an email to Billy Reid to see
how they decide to resolve this. I've decided to post this thread after the second defect with the next item I purchased
together with the peacoat.

I purchased the Madison Twill jacket which is a nice simple cotton jacket with a suede collar. At least this item
appeared to be defect free. Well I wore it out yesterday (first day wearing it out) and all seemed okay until I returned
home. This morning I inspected the piece and saw that the top right pocket (when viewed from the front) had one side
of the button hole stitching all broken/unravelled so the button hole was no longer lined with stitching. "Oh well," I
thought, I'll just see whether the bottom pocket button holes pop open properly. The bottom right pocket button then
proceeded to crack in half (still partly attached at the top but pretty much cracking right through.. I've looked all over both
pieces are see no replacement buttons. I know that the Madison jacket has horn buttons which I expected to be longer
lasting/quality pieces but after it cracked, I'm afraid of opening any other of the buttoned closed pockets now.

This is when I emailed both the retailer and Billy Reid. One piece I could accept a lack in quality (even though it still
should not happen with the retail of these pieces). But now that 2 pieces have neglected quality, I'm afraid that the
third piece I have will have issues as well.

As of right now, I cannot recommend anyone buy Billy Reid products unless you are okay with substandard quality.
I like to look nice and that's why we come to this website but I like my clothes to be quality as well and that's why
I want to inform everyone of this.

I'll let you guys know what comes of these emails.

Update April 23rd/2013:

Billy Reid emailed me back saying they would replace the buttons and pay for what costs were associated with putting them on. I think I'll go with that and see what I can do to repair the button hole broken threads. I've emailed them back. I'll update with the progress. Thanks.

That sucks, but at least they are trying to make it right. My experience with Billy Reid merchandise has been nothing short of fantastic. I have the Madison jacket--no issues at all.

No I don't work for Billy Reid. :)

I'm sure they are rushing production on the Bond peacoat to capitalize on it's popularity, but that doesn't explain why OP Madison jackets was not well made. Hopefully just a blip and not a trend!

I assumed the same about the Bond peacoat. I've read about other people having problems with jackets from the later runs. OP has the black coat though. That's not the Bond version. I'm not sure what happened there.
