Impeachment, Constitution, Imperial, Caesar, "We Won", etc.

This executive order is a huge story, and yet Lena Dunham.

Wha' happened?

This executive order on illegal immigrants is pretty much killing any chance (if the chance ever existed at all) of a functional relationship between the legislative and executive branches. The next 2 years should be interesting.

O is playing the long game here. He knows that immigration is a winning topic for Dems, both in public opinion shaped by the media and in both registering new voters (the former illegals) and their legal relatives. It's always a losing topic for Repubs. So his long game is to make the next two years about immigration and get his legacy back on track by helping to get another Dem in the White House.

Speculation is that he's trying to push the Repubs into another shutdown, since that was a PR win for the Dems last time around.

Free vacation, I guess.

Think Mitch has already said he wouldn't get into that pissing match. If that's true he's learned something.

This is a very long game to play. He wants instant gratification. Why else would you ignore the election. Elections have consequences... Remember?

It was a PR win, because all shutdowns will be blamed on the GOP. But the PR win was like a liberal sugar high. Didn't last very long, as evidenced by the trouncing during the midterms.

This is racist and dog whistle. Unless you're a "Progressive" saying it. Then its demographics and destiny and Si Se Puente.

So these EOs...legal or not?

IMO, I think Obama is trying to push things right to the edge of legal on purpose. He's tossing rotten eggs at the Repubs and trying to goad them into a shutdown or impeachment.

I like the way the Drudge Report put it -- Obama will have "legalized" more foreigners to work in the US than jobs that have been recovered on his watch.

And these executive orders are illegal on their face. The right thing to do, if Congress had any guts, would be to impeach him. The real question is whether there's anything else that can be done about it.

Unfortunately both parties have decided that they value staying in power more than the rule of law, so don't expect anything.

He would love it if the Repubs went for impeachment; it's part of his goal in this. Can you imagine the victimhood?

Agreed. Impeachment won't solve the problem. I sense that a lot of people on the left, who cheered for this, are now nervously looking around wondering what the consequences will be. After all, its great for turning red states purple, but lefties are the ultimate NIMBY's.

I would love for Bachmann and Palin and Rush and Hannity to applaud the EO by saying, look what the next GOP president will be able to accomplish!!! We can roll back entitlements, OBamacare, EPA, IRS, Civil rights division of DOJ, etc.

But I love the red meat. Force feeding the Dems to consume the rancid meal they cooked. EO's, filibuster, nuclear option. I know its not an adult approach to take, so I'm torn.

Today, the transformation of Barack Obama from wide-eyed idealist to bitter imperator will finally be completed. Amid the glitz and the artifice of Las Vegas, the last vestiges of the one we were waiting for will be swept ignominiously away, leaving only power, cynicism, and partisanship in their stead. There was a time when our 44th president claimed to stand for transparency, modesty, moderation, tolerance, humility, reason, and calm. Today, just feet from Caesars Palace, he will don the robes of the emperor and spin minor discretion into gargantuan usurpation, all norms and touchstones be damned. However convincing are the promises of the ambitious, Lord Acton always has the last laugh.
