C&J Portman 3

Does anyone have these? Looking through the C&J thread and others there seems to be precious little mention of them...

They've caught my eye several times on Jermyn St and Burlington Arcade and I'm thinking of picking up a pair (in brown antique calf) as part of an order later this month. Thoughts from the community?

I, personally, don't like the look as they are bit "neither fish nor fowl" for me - they're not really a boot but they are a bit more than a shoe.

I'd prefer either a regular single monkstrap, like the Malvern or a jodhpur boot, like the Cottesmore, rather than the Portman which just (to me) looks like an odd cross between the two.

Still, if the look of the Portman does appeal to you, then go for it!

I take your point entirely, which is probably why I feel a bit of ambiguity.  I have a general rule of thumb that I follow, where when I see an item I like I walk away from it, and if it catches my eye unprompted at a later date then I go for it. The Portman has done this a couple of times (e.g. walking down the street, saying "damn those are sweet" and then realizing it's a C&J store and I'm checking out Portmans).

Perhaps I'll be blazing new ground here!
