I bought 3 Tom Fords and I feel terrible about it.

Made by the Zegna Couture factory, whose work we examined in a previous post there are some similarities and some differences. And for those who think that TF is just rebranded mainline Zegna, you are quite wrong. I see nothing inspiring in mainline Zegna. I was, however, moved to want to get my hands on one of these TF suits to have a better look.

Just know that Bespoke means picking every detail, from number and style of buttons on the cuff to the colour of the felt under the collar and everything in between. It sounds to me like you're not in the right place (both in skill and inclination) to embark on a 3 month journey to having your "dream suit" realised.

Stick with Off-the-Rack for now.

Made-to-measure means that they take the basic suit and build it to your exact measurements. This is great if your clothes are difficult to fit. If they fit nice with a little tailoring then there's no point.

In this instance you lucked out: Tom Ford is probably one of only a small handful of "designers" who actually uses good quality materials. The same can't be said for 99% of designers. You might take a step up in terms of quality if you went bespoke, but frankly you're not well versed enough to notice or care yet.

A final note: DONT BUY THE MOST EXPENSIVE FABRIC. The most expensive are usually the finest most delicate fabrics. If you wear your suits more than twice per month, then you're buying something that will wear out within a few months. A VERY rough guide would be to pick something between S120 and s150, with no more than 20% cashmere. I can't stress how rough that is, but it should avoid you buying s200 cloth made from a shaved angel that then falls apart in a week.

Absolutely amazing advice !

By the way I put the midnight blue TF on for my wife . She said it looked painted on. I am sure
That a custom would look better but I am relatively happy with these Fords now .

I like a tight fit around the Ribs and it seems to really cut in beautifully .

I'm clearly not knowledgeable to pick out my own custom suit but in the future I will just let the tailor pick it out for me or bring in ome of my fords or guccis and say "do something like this" .
I don't have any other choice and I'm dying to see what a custom feels like !

I've heard that the inside of a custom suit has a sort of a canvas or something that is body forming .... They can even put in a litt bit of muscle to make the chest look just right ? Is this true ?

I don't know but I can't wait to start my adventure .

Thanks for all the help and advice with my new found hobby :).

I do not know who makes the Suits for TF. I have seen the top of the line shirts from TF
they are beautiful. really well made. the price is obscene, but i can't quibble with fabric or construction.
so if it fits, enjoy.
your problem is that there is no way the pants will fit properly, no matter how much alteration is done.
if you go to the TF boutique, see if it is possible to order the jacket and pants in different sizes
they can cut to order.
I don't know how many custom tailors are going to cut a suit that will look like Tom ford

You are absolutely right. I'm a 54/52 euro 42/44 us and a 32 Inch waste. The pants are a bit big on me even after tailoring.....but I'm going back for a second fitting to get it right.

I'm sure there is no way it will be as good as custom.....but I'm going to try and get as close as possible .

I have a Tom Ford tuxedo jacket that I LOVE.

I'm pretty new to custom suiting too, and I'm pretty much learning the same things. I have a Brioni and a Kiton that I love - but I recently bought my new favorite suit from a custom tailor at about half the price.

With Tom Ford, you are paying for the brand name, the consistency and the creative designs.

IF you can find a custom tailor who can give you all those things, you might forget Ford. But, don't feel bad about the purchase. Tom Ford is a great designer.

Thanks!

I have noticed one thing extremely special about Ford that I'm not sure can be duplicated in a custom suit.

The lapel on the Fords seem so wide and they really need to go with the super high collar of the Ford shirts . It's like buying an iPhone 5 and then getting all the proper wires to go with the phone.

This specific look just looks Incredible to me and not quite sure it can be easily duplicated in a custom suit?

In any event .....I'm definitely going to try custom next and ask them to replicate a ford or one of my Gucci's

:teach:

They be like, "Oh, that Gucci Tom Ford - that's hella tight."
I'm like, "Yo - that's fifty SIX THOUSAND dollars for a T-shirt suit."
Limited edition, let's do some simple addition
Six thousand dollars for a suit - that's just some ignorant ***** (****)
I call that getting swindled and pimped (****)
I call that getting tricked by a business
That suit's hella dough
And having the same one as six other people in this club is a hella don't
Peep game, come take a look through my telescope
Tryna get girls from a brand? Man you hella won't
Man you hella won't

Please don't be angry.

Sure I will post a picture . I just joined today.....just tell me how to post it and I will.

But I don't think there is any need to be angry.

Are we reading the same response? He doesn't seem angry..

You post pics by taking pictures, moving them to your PC, and uploading them via the convenient button with an image on it in this very editor. That, or Google "how to post pics in forums". I'm really starting to wonder how you came into this money...
