I read this morning that Garnett could possibly go to Boston. This could be fun, I wouldn't mind watching Garnett, Allen, and Pierce.

Frankly, I'm getting tired of the rumors, I just want to see something happen.

This is basically the Celtics putting one round in the chamber, one in the magazine, and hoping like hell that they can take down the Finals in two shots... but it's interesting, I give them that. I think whoever comes out of the West will still chew them up if they haven't been decimated by injuries and the much tougher Western Conference playoffs, but I really want to see Garnett get a ring before he retires.

In my opinion, the Celtics' big three (Garnett, Pierce, Allen) is as good as the Spurs' big three (Duncan, Ginobili, Parker). The problems they have are an inexperienced point guard and terrible coach. If they work those problems out, or at least minimize them, the Celtics have a pretty good shot at the championship assuming no major injury problems.

Who are these guys the Wolves are getting in return for KG? (I don't follow the NBA enough to be aware of them.)

Dakot Rube. Al Jefferson is really good already and still has a lot of room to grow. He will probably end up being a 23-11 guy in a year or two. Think elton brand or zach randolph without the character problems. Gerald Green is still unbelievably raw given its his 3rd or 4th season but he's ridiculously athletic and still has some upside because of it. He can jump out of the gym, is really quick and only has 9 fingers. Theo Ratliff is a journeyman shot blocker who when a bit younger was among the best shotblockers in the game. Now he's just involved because he has a big contract that comes off the book after this coming season.

Everyone realizes that Doc Rivers is the coach of the celtics still right? Alright just checking. Also they still don't have a point guard. Rondo isn't ready to take them to the finals. Rondo is a run and gun point guard, not a slow, halfcourt offense where you feed the superstars and take open jumpers (he can't make a jumper to save his life). They really need to go out and try to sign someone like chucky atkins or brevin knight (even though brevin can't shoot he's a top notch distributor).

knight/atkins/somoene else
allen
pierce
garnett
perkins

with: Gomes, Rondo, Powe, Glenn Davis, Tony Allen and Scalabrini

The bench isn't too bad, but they could really use some size. Powe has become good enough to be a solid bench 4, and Glenn Davis is skilled, smart and played great in summer league but they're both a bit undersized at the 4 and certainly can't play the 5. The starting point guard situation is grim but gomes and tony allen are solid backups at the 2 and 3 position. They really need to trade or sign or somehow acquire a smart starting point guard and get 1 more 6'11 guy who can bang (doesn't have to be good but just a solid rebounder/defender).

Seriously though, i have them in the top 3 with the Nets and the Pistons. I don't know if they're that much better. If they gel really great and quickly and Doc Rivers isn't absolutely horrible as always they have a shot.

Maybe... but Chrono pretty much summed up my questions about the team perfectly. I'd like to see them compete seriously in the Finals, but they're on a clock right now with Allen and Garnett in particular, and in the meantime they're going to have to find a way to gel as a team despite basically not having a coach. And they really need someone at point. Maybe they can convince Billy King to send Andre Miller to Boston for nothing... I wouldn't put it past him.

Nets and Detroit are on the back-end of their window, I think Chicago and Cleveland (despite not making any moves) are still the front-runners in the East.

I would definately agree with you on Chicago, I wouldn't sleep on Toronto though, they have potential. The Celtics are in the East, they have a pretty fair chance, their biggest downfall will be the lack of a PG, considering they traded West away on draft day. I'm sure they will make a run for a PG, considering they have a number of Forwards on their roster. They only have a 2-3 year window, given Pierce will be 30, Garnett is 31, and Allen is 32.

Good call on Toronto, they're definitely up and coming, as well as the Magic and *gasp* Atlanta I think is FINALLY on the right track.

I forgot about ATL, they had a very impressive draft day and Orlando should be looking pretty good this year. Maybe the East is really starting to shape up, then again I also believe the Bobcats have untapped potential.

Toronto has added some useful pieces, and I could see them improving upon their regular season record from last year. However, I do not believe that they can yet field a starting 5 that is the equal of the top two or three teams in the NBA East. They do well in the regular season where depth is more of a factor, but if this year was any indication, struggle when the bench gets shortened in the playoffs.

Mitchell and his crew must also show growth in their playoff preparation -- he won coach of the year due to regular season performance, but probably would not have won it if the award had been issued after the playoffs.
