Qualities of the Perfect Dress Watch

Thread Starter

I am a co-founder of a watch company. Currently we offer sport and tactical watches and are looking to branch out into dress watches.  In this vein I am asking forum members to tell me what the top three characteristics are in a perfect dress watch?  Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Thanks. for more information.  This is our PVD Atlantis model on a handmade strap.

No way I could limit this to a top three:

1. Finished hand-wound (not auto) mechanical movement.
2. Precious metal case instead of steel. Display back optional.
3. Leather or croc strap instead of metal bracelet. Can have a deployant clasp or traditional buckle.
4. Rectangle, square, tank, tonneau or cushion shape is perferable to round.
5. Roman numeral or baton markers are preferable to numerals.
6. White or silver dial is preferable to black or other dark color.
7. If second hand is displayed, a subdial is preferable to center sweep.
8. Minimal design, reasonable size (certainly less than 40 mm), as thin as possible.
9. Keep complications to a minimum, although I like a nice moon phase watch.

handwound or auto mechanical movement
Size around 40mm
Height on the thinner side
Simple aesthetics but I like that there is some sort of tasteful twist that separates the watch from the rest, in other words is not just another Rolex/Omega/Panerai clone
Strap that compliments the color of the case - darker colors preferred
Steel or rose gold case

1) Compact size - certainly no greater than 40mm diameter, 38 is just perfect.

2) Relatively thin.

3) Automatic or manual wind mechanical movement.

4) No display back unless the movement is truly something worth displaying.

5) Hours, minutes and seconds (sub or central) only.  Date only if you feel you must. Nothing else.

6) Minimal script on the dial.  No, seriously.  I don't need to know the water resistance in meters and feet, that it's automatic, or that it has been officially certified to be a superlatively awesome chronometer, officially.

7) Precious metal not required.

8) Round case preferred.  Really hard to mess that up.  Proportions on tonneau and rectangualr watches can be a bit tricky.

9) On a strap - not a bracelet.  Bonus points for including a second strap with purchase (say, buyer can choose from two of black, dark brown, medium brown, dark blue, tan).
