Acceptable to wear a "denim suit"?

Ok, yesterday I was browsing my local TK Maxx store for some new jeans, and while I was there I also spotted this pretty cool-looking medium-blue Ralph Lauren denim jean jacket. It was also on clearance, only £30, so I thought 'great!' and bought it.

It was only when I got home that I realised I'm not sure if I have anything to wear it with lol. When I'm not wearing a suit, I wear jeans everywhere - so my question is: is it acceptable to wear jeans with a denim jacket?
I personally wouldn't have a problem matching up different shades (i.e. dark jeans w/ light jacket etc.) if it wasn't for the plethora of 60-year old balding guys you see wearing these horrible "denim suits" of a jean jacket and jeans, both the exact same shade. I've always personally disliked that look.

I asked at the store today and returning it isn't a problem, but should I? It's a really nice piece of clothing and it was a steal at the price I got it, but its useless if I won't wear it for fear of looking silly lol. Would it look fine with a different shade of jeans or not?

Thanks

Yes, different shades, a plus. Go for it if you can pull it off.

And I think someone posted a thread like this not too long ago...

I only wear my denim jacket with cords. I hate the way denim on denim looks. A few people can pull it off though but I'm certainly not one of them.

I love the look of jeans jackets. But right now, considering I wear jeans 90% of the time, I would never buy a jeans jacket. It would never be worn since I am not down with the Canadian Tux.

I think you can do it, but you need supreme confidence. I think the fact that you asked means you do not have the kojoans for this.

You can wear a denim suit if your name is Graham Nash, Marvin Gaye, John Sebastian, Greg Brady, or Jimmy Walker.

The Canadian Tux is not a good look.

If that isn't a good look, then I don't know what is. I wish cmf would go back to dressing like that.

It wasn't a typo, or an intentional miss-spelling: I just have no idea how to spell it. But thank you for being very helpful and correcting the error.

Yet, in the future, I'll continue to approximate names when I feel that the average reader will be able to understand me.

That's for your attention to detail.
