This is a very early Barbour Beaufort (likely one of the earliest made), with only two royal shields, meaning it was manufactured in the 70s or early 80's. I own a lot of Barbours and collected them for a while - this one is special in that it features the early hardware before Barbour started branding a bit more heavily on their jackets. All the brass poppers have a smooth, coppery patina that is really awesome, and no embossing of "barbour" is present (the embossing appeared sometime around 1981 or so and every snap on any jacket I've seen made after that date is embossed with the Barbour name). Also, instead of the Barbour labeled ring pull, the center zip is a chunky rectangular YKK zip, while the map/game pockets do a have a ring zip - but not labeled barbour. Amazingly, this jacket still has it's original hood (can tell it's original because it too has the unbranded coppery snaps). Note that in the pictures the poppers/snaps appear to be almost a dull matt, but in reality they are very bright and shiny with golden/copper hues. In the photo of the main zipper pull, notice the male part of the snap hardware - that pattern is no longer existent and appeared only on the older Barbour jackets.

Clean inside and out, the classic brown corduroy collar has faded a bit with time and wear to a lighter brown, which is standard for these jackets. The shell could be worn as is or brightened up and made more water resistant with new coating of Barbour's thornproof wax, which can be ordered from Orvis or found on eBay.

I may regret selling this one - I'm sure I'll never see another again. But I'm on a disciplined clothing purge and it's on the list to go. If you like Barbour, check out the other two jackets I'm selling (was selling more but some have sold).

chest - 23"
