Ah okay, most fedoras I've seen have had a much smaller brim than that and that's about the width size I'm looking for

Many of the hats you see called fedoras, with small brims, are actually trilbies. Some are actually fedoras with small brims; the determining factor is the shape of the crown. If it's made with a round crown, that is then dimpled in the middle, and on both sides (like you would bend it if laying three fingers in it) then it's a fedora. If it's got a whole depressed area in the top that is concentric to the shape of the hat, it is a trilby. That's definitely a fedora in the picture; looks much like mine.

I have a very nice, fur felt, black Homburg I bought to wear with my dinner suit at my wedding, suits, and perhaps some day with a stroller if I get one. How far can I take it into the casual realm, if at all, do you think? Can I wear it with a suit and no tie? Can I wear it with a sport coat and slacks? Sport coat and jeans? Thoughts and opinions, please.

Fedoras can have a C or teardrop crease "concentric to the top of the head" as well as a center dent. Trilbys are distinguished by a more tapered and lower crown and a shorter brim that is more upturned in the back. They were traditionally softer than fedoras. Differences are of degree, not kind. Yes, a Homburg is more formal than a federal. Homburg are semiformal, equivalent to a Derby/bower. In black, Either of those two is correct with a stroller, and a Homburg is correct with a Tuxedo. Both can be worn with suits as well, of course.

Edit: I love replies from my phone when I re-read them. Got to love those federal hats.

Looking forward to this NOS Ecuadorian Hat Company Milan in size 7.5. Has that Optimo Panama style vertical crease as was popular in the 50s/60s.
