Not Montecristi the Montecristi weave is so fine you would think it was cloth. In the first picture you can see the weave of the straw. That makes is a sub Fino or Fino hat.

Now there is nothing wrong with getting one at that price there just might be imprefections in the weave of the hat.

I like the Semi Caldo Panama weave hat is it is much cooler to wear the Montecristi for me is to tight a weave and I end up sweating too much.

Interesting info on folding Panamas

I walk to work every day. Here in Seattle, we get a lot of light rain but rarely heavy rain. I'm looking for a very wide brimmed hat to use for light rain. Any suggestions on where to get hats like this? What is the name for these styles of hats? Are these called Trilbeys?

Get yourself an Akubra Campdraft.

A Trilby is a short brimed Fedora hat.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trilby most hats sold in stores today are Trilby's

As suggested a Campdraft which is made by Akubra http://www.everythingaustralian.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=19 Akubra's are very good hats and can stand the rain most hats today

can not stand the rain. The Campdraft is a Australian only model hat an is only available thru online Australian dealers. As the design is based on the Stetson Open road which Akubra use to make under contact with Stetson USA.

Since you live in Seattle why not visit Byrnie Utz hat store and see what they suggest.

I finally picked up a new Panama:

AppleMark

Though I'm happy with it, I think I may get a Borsalino this summer. I really liked one that had a taupe band.

Any recommendations on where to find a nice Panama style hat in Naples?

Thanks for the info. It turns out that I found a montecristi hat at a local shop in Salerno today. It is not as fine as described as by some but the shape flatters me more than any other hat I've tried. The shop owner didn't speak any English but it seemed to me that he made the hats (or blocked them).

My next hat for summer will be a folding (rolling) Panama. I like my Stetson Panama would like to be able to roll it for temporary storage and travel. The folding/rolling ones also seem just a bit lighter making them that much more comfortable on extremely hot days.

Consider this if you are thinking about buying your first Panama hat for summer.
