Men's Hats: A Discussion Thread, Questions, Opinions, Suggestions... - Page 15

manofkent: hey, good point - I neglected to mention that the very fine weaves are actually more fragile, so even if you're loaded, it's not necessarily a good idea to go for the ultra-premium ones. If you do, consider those 'dress hats', and get some lower-end ones too for regular wear. It's a bit like buying a super 250s cashmere sport coat, or something (I remember seeing 'made by shaving an angel' or something in another thread, I LOL'ed) - you wouldn't wear it for tooling around town in.

I didn't know Lock didn't make their own any more, I'm not that up on the British brands :/ thanks for that too!

Interesting use of some of those West African hats.

Costume.

- noun
1.
a style of dress, including accessories and hairdos, especially that peculiar to a nation, region, group, or historical period.
2.
dress or garb characteristic of another period, place, person, etc., as worn on the stage or at balls.
3.
fashion of dress appropriate to a particular occasion or season: dancing costume; winter costume.
4.
a set of garments, especially women's garments, selected for wear at a single time; outfit; ensemble.

That's all I have to say on it. Rather than debate this bollocks I'd much rather see more pictures of dapper fellas looking comfortable in their titfers.

Using the definition above some of the most respected and copied persons on this site are "costumey".

Tibor should count himself in the "chosen" group here.

Here are a couple summer hats. A navy Dobbs Rosebud, and a montecristi from Panama Hatworks of Montecristi. I just picked up a vintage brown Milan that I like a lot, but don't have a picture of it yet.

I've been wanting to do the same as well. Tirailleur, can you show/tell us what you use for hanging them?

I don't have a wall o' hats exactly, more a row o' hats, but I just use cheap coat/hat hooks from the dollar store - round here they come in packs of two for $1, they're just the same kind of hooks you get on a coat rack with a couple of holes so you can screw them into a wall. I use them for tons of stuff actually. I have 'em in the kitchen for hanging pots on too. Hats hang fine on the top part of the hook.
