Love JJ Hat Center. Just picked up a Stetson newsboy yesterday, had a good steaming/brushing of my Bailey Premier fedora...

fellow hat guys, upr_crust in particular - i'm looking for a bit of an education on the homburg hat. love the shape and am particularly interested in akubra's new offering from hatsdirect. is the homburg strictly a formal or semi-formal hat? need it be worn with a coat and tie? or can it be rocked with just a sport or dress shirt?

Homburgs are historically dressy hats. You can wear them as you like and as a more casual hat but I personally would not.

I think a wider brim (2 1/2 to 2 3/4 inch) with bound edge fedora is a hat that can go dressy but also goes casual very well.

Here is a black recent Stetson. Black would not be my first choice. Gray is far more versatile.

I only wear with a tux or suit and tie

The rule is that you must dress up to wear a homburg.............

.........but you may dress down and wear a bowler.

x-post WAYWRN, and I agree that a Homburg really calls for a suit . . .
