So the other day I decided to clean up these boots a bit for spring -- the leather upper had some salt stains and the vibram outsole was getting pretty dirty. I used Jason Markk's premium sneaker solution with the standard sneaker cleaning brush. The olive leather upper and vibram outsole cleaned up very nicely, but the leather midsole which was once fairly smooth and tan/peachy in colour turned rougher and a white/dull grey. I'm just wondering if any of you guys could tell me what happened and/or offer some solutions to restore the midsole back to its original state. Is the white/dull grey colour from the cleaning solution residue? Could the leather have been damaged by the brush? The leather of the midsole could be natural untreated leather... in which case wouldn't water damage/stain it? I'm not too knowledgeable on untreated leather, or leather in general
Here's what the boot looks like brand new.
Here are some pictures of my boots after I cleaned them.
