Yeah, the 30% (or more?) import tax on shoes are a killer, but like anywhere else, the customs in Japan don't always catch your shipment (if you're lucky). Or the overseas dealer can undervalue the product for you (obviously not may are willing).
I probably have not had any luck so far but all my shoes were taxed and "caught" so far. Every single pair of them.
NC, do you know if leather sneakers also get taxed? I'm thinking of ordering CPs (or the cheaper Kent Wangs), but I'd rather just wait and buy them abroad if I'll be taxed for them.
Thanks!
In my experience, yes, all of them. Might have not been lucky though. I know a colleague of mine who bought a pair of CJ and was not taxed. But I only purchase only one item, so that might be my problem.
BTW, if you are in Tokyo and look around, you would see a lot of people wearing CPs or MMMs. So, if you want to stand out, embrace another brand, is my suggestion.
let me guess, the lazyman?

No, not the lazyman, but those gussets look amazing.
Mines are the split toe derbies with lotsa white marks.
you make another bespoke with Qnai-san?
c'mon give up the detail

Not Dover/Hove, more like the U-tips/split toes, French style. i.e., seen in Saint Crispins or Lattanzi catalogue
This. And please show us your collection, I'm quite sure you have some amazing shoes in your collection!
