Those plain toes by Hiroshi Tsubouchi costs 77K, or 770 USD

Yes, imported shoes usually have an up charge (due to the high import tax), but not as horrible as you think.

EG Chelsea shoes cost ¥146,880 in Japan ($1432 USD) including 8% VAT. This is after the recent price hike.

Most of the time, leather goods or shoes from Europe or US have around 15-20% more expensive than the regular price.

Right now with "Abenomics", yen became weak and import cost increased once again.

If you live in Japan, buy Japanese shoes... not European shoes ! ; )

@nutcracker If I visited Japan, any of these makers could do measurements and a first fitting within one week, and ship the final shoes? Thank you smile.gif

ooo, I highly doubt any of the makers offering services that fast here. You can try makers that don`t make test shoes / extra fitting session. I know Clematis and Fukuda offer that.

You can have a fitting and have the fitting shoes sent. He did that with me.
I still have another fitting in Tokyo though. My trial shoes were too roomy, and I'm very glad my final shoes were not delivered as the fitting ones.

Email him. He is fluent in English from his experiences with Paul Wilson whom trained him and with G&G whom he worked as an out worker.

Can't remember exactly, but it was about 380 000yen with trees included. Lots of leathers to choose from though. Deadstock Freudenberg (brown, dark brown, burgundy llama), pig, various exotics, ++. His regular calf leathers are great too, obviously.

Actually it was 363 300 when I ordered
