I looked up the address for the following shoemakers who I think you will have fun visiting. They each have a showroom /workshop with sizable collection of sample bespokes to show. You can also find more info on their websites (you can find them on the 1st post). Most of them require an appointment for a visit.

Other Tokyo based shoemakers, such as Marquess, Emori, or TYE, don`t have showrooms or sizable stock of samples to show (but you can contact them to see their workshop).

Many thanks Sir!

A fascinating book... titled: The Cultural History of Shoemaking: Japanese shoes and their Craftsmen by Minoru Inagawa and Yoshimi Yamamoto

The commentary (on the lower sleeve) says: "There is a shoemaking fad among young people right now. How did this happen?"

The book traces the 150 years history of shoemaking in Japan: from the early struggles to incorporate the foreign footwear into their culture, the early bespoke making culture, the era of mass production / decline of handmade shoes, and finally to the resurgence in interest among the young people to learn shoemaking, and the efforts of the older generation to transmit the craft to them.

Sorry, I just read the summary, but I think I may actually pick this up.

I won't be surprised if it did. There are quite a bit of random fashion related (Japanese) publications being translated in Taiwan lol8[1].gif

like this book, by the Japanese fashion guru Nakamura Tatsuya (from BEAMS)

THE SHOES (Chinese version), by Nakamura Tatsuya

I own the Japanese version...

I travel back and forth from Tokyo to Taipei (will be there again in a week or two)

I've met some folks who post on the shoes forum of a Taiwanese equivalent to SF, called the Gentry. It's a relatively new site, but seems like a close knit community. I know they do occasionally peek into SF....
