Those look very purse-like to me.

Beretta

Felisi

Tramontano and Zanellato also offer briefcases in soft/shrunk leather. I'm sure there are slew of other Italian brands that also do...

Thanks very much guys - Would you say these brands stack up to Ohba in terms of quality? Ohba quality is very good, and compared to Tramontano and Zanellato, the pricing is about the same for me to buy in Australia (maybe 10% difference, thereabouts).

Which of brands are comparable to Ohba in price performance?

- Beretta (cant find website?)

Felisi

Tramontano

Zanellato (have been considering this brand for a while. Love the style and price, but very unresponsive customer service)

- Berluti (no online store... unfortunately Australian retail availability is nil)

Ok, posted a reply earlier but went to the moderator and disappeared

Just wanted to say Thanks guys. I'd like to ask - which of the recommended brands have quality comparable to Ohba. As I understand, Ohba quality is superlative, more so than these other brands, is that correct?

- Beretta (couldn't find their website...)
- Felisi
- Berluti (no online store... unfortunately no physical retail in Aus)
- Zanellato (I'm considering this brand - its priced well and I also like the style)
- Tramontano

ThinkDerm - thanks mate I will certainly make a post. I'm also surprised no one's mentioned Australian leathergoods brand Oroton - I will post my thoughts soon

Ohba's craftsmanship should be comparable to any of those Italian brands on the list, if not better. But in terms of design, Ohba is quite conservative and some of its Italian inspired creations don't really sit on par with the Italian counterparts, IMO. Their classic top-frame briefcases and attache cases, on the other hand, are superb, and are often used in movies and TV dramas (much like SAB).

Here is a Ohba classic: An 'Overnight' Briefcase. Apparently Franco Prinzivalli uses this bag.

If you're looking for a soft leather bag, Zanellato's Postina bag is as soft as you can get.
CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 90

Here is Beretta's website:

The leather itself has a certain distressed/textured feel to it, but it is finished uniformly. Not 2 finishes.

Thanks nutcracker

Must say, Tucchino really looks something special

Not a big fan of ostrich but the cabinet, and the top frames, are amazing

EDIT:

hey also - those are jpy prices? its not actually all that bad... runs in the 3-4k AUD or USD range... that's LV money more or less, but workmanship looks very interesting just based on the pictures... I'm assuming all hand sown and such

Yeah you're right Tucchinos are entirely hand sewn, and the craftsmanship is excellent. Most bags I saw were priced in the ¥300K yen range ($3000~$4000). Ikimi san is a graphic designer/interior designer turned craftsman, and while his bold style may not be for everyone, they do offer something unique and different. I've posted somewhere before, but his custom leather trunks and wardrobes look quite nice too

The top one looks "inspired" by Bottega Veneta to me.
