Looking for classic briefcase designs from the likes of SAB, Frank Clegg, J W Hulme, Schlesinger and Henry Tomkins.

Thank you.

Only pre-owned? Pre-owned Frank Clegg would probably cost more than a new Henry Tomkins. Is it not for cost reasons but rather for some "aging"?

Not so much about "aging" or the cost in particular, it's just that I'm looking for a good deal, but need a briefcase rather urgently so I made sure to include most if not all, the brands the members on this thread carry.

  1. can fit a 15" laptop

  3. has only one main compartment (so I can fit large headphones, sunglasses case, etc)
  4. has a zipper opening (I fly a lot and a zipper is much easier to open under a plane seat than a satchel)
  5. is $300 to $500

Essentially something like this, but wider and in a more interesting color/finish.

Or for more money, a 6" deep version of the above: http://www.jwhulmeco.com/Overnight-Briefcase-p/75019.htm

The loosened strap that it is hanging from is just for illustration purposes. It is a very flat case at 1.5". I use it like a portfolio, not a briefcase so I hold it under my arm, not use the strap as a handle.

The intension of the extra length was sometimes I overstuff so I wanted more room to accomodate a fuller, overstuffed bag. Also, sometimes if I NEED to have a hand free if I am walking in the rain with coffee and an umbrella I can create slack and put my arm through it temporarily. 9 times out of 10 it is fully cinched closed and simply held.

I like the Valextra. I can't live with it since I need my hands free for fumbling for a phone / work pass / umbrella, but I like....

I like the look of the Tusting Marston:

I am a fan of the Tusting brand too - but some of the finishing can be improved.

Look at the side stitching on the bag here - the threading can be improved and the

lines can be straighter...but for £375...it's a decent deal.

^I personally don't care for Tusting. They photograph well, but having owned one I feel that they feel a bit chinsy, and the finishing seems a bit cheap. I could be way off here and it could just be the style, but ultimately I was underwhelmed with mine.
