Hey gents,

I'm looking at a few briefcases and wanted some feedback on the following few.  Ideally I'd like to hear about experiences with either maker or these specific models.  I searched and did not find any posts detailing experiences with the Mitchell offering, but many seem to like the Glaser.

Mitchell Leather Classic: (Horween cognac dublin leather with brown CXL trim)

Glaser designs Day Bag

Aesthetically, I think the Mitchell edges out the Glaser, however from a practicality standpoint, I think a fully optioned Glaser might take the win.  The finishing and detail on the Mitchell exudes quality and attention to detail.  It is, I think, classically styled yet outspoken.  The Glaser, I find, is elegantly understated.  Both are beautiful, each with a unique aesthetic.  I'm interested to hear other opinions on aesthetics, but given the subjectivity of that topic, I'm even more interested in reviews from those who live with these bags on a daily basis.

I have spoken with Dave Mitchell (and ordered a shell cordovan wallet from him), and he seems like the type of proprietor I like to do business with - i.e. a small, detail-oriented craftsman who takes pride in his work.  I believe Glaser falls into the same category.  A fully optioned Glaser would be a similar price point to the Horween leather Mitchell classic.  That said, it sounds like a 4 month wait for a Mitchell specified to my options.  I'm not sure how long a Glaser takes to be built, and I believe I have fewer options regarding material choice with the Glaser.

Anyone here with experience with either of the above that can provide a comparo or testament to quality/functionality of either model?

Cheers,

Paul

Also, with respect to Glaser, I am considering the Flaptop bag as well.  I am going to do a skype video call with them later today to learn about their options.

Can anyone recommend a brand or briefcase for me? I am looking for something that:
  1. can fit a 15" laptop
  2. is 4-6" wide
  3. has only one main compartment (so I can fit large headphones, sunglasses case, etc)
  4. has a zipper opening (I fly a lot and a zipper is much easier to open under a plane seat than a satchel)
  5. is $300 to $500

Essentially something like this, but wider and in a more interesting color/finish.

This is a pretty good deal for a small briefcase: http://shopmulholland.com/bags/briefcases/all-leather-montgomery-street-brief.  I have this brief in Burgundy and it looks great a couple years in.  I was told this brief is US made when I purchased mine, though I believe most of Mulholland's products are now made in China.

It consists of one single piece of dense Italian full grain leather which has been folded.

Then there are 2 straps (shoulder strap and the flap in front).

The shoulder strap also keeps the folded piece together.

The leather is vegetably tanned and waterproof.

I do not know if we can call it a briefcase, though. It is a rather a shoulder bag for men.

Bag looks clean and sleek.
What bag is this?
And where can I get this?

Thanks

Hi Guys,

I'm in the market for a pre-owned briefcase so if you'd like to clear out your closet for something new, drop me a message and let's see if we can work something out.

Looking for classic briefcase designs from the likes of SAB, Frank Clegg, J W Hulme, Schlesinger and Henry Tomkins.

Thank you.
