Okay, So I went to Nordstrom last night and found these nice Hugo Boss Selection Shoes. They are black and look sharp and well made. I noticed too that they are light in weight. My question is, Are the worth $369.95 + Tax, meaning if I want to buy them I have to spend $400. I like them.

Let me know what your insights are.

those are nice! I actually had a great pair of Selection brown captoes that got lost somehow when I moved last year :(

it would be nice if they were cheaper, but if you like to style and fit - I say go for it.

I'm not a shoe nerd, but 400 dollars for a pair of Hugo Boss shoes of unknown provenance sounds unpromising. I would advise you look into the forum-approved brands in the same price bracket, i.e. Meermin/Loake 1880/Allen Edmonds.

I did not buy these shoes. I am skeptical a little. I love those Sutors though. I wish they were my size.

Yes, because if it's not approved by the forum it must be crap.

Meermins have known QC issues and after FedEx customs fees might get up into the $450 range.......is that any better?

So I came across the Magnanni loafers. I think they are worth the price. I passed on the Hugo Boss because I did not feel the quality for $400. Are Magnanni shoes of quality build? For $229 + tax they look and feel good.

Hugo Boss Selection shoes are decent quality.

Some models are Goodyear welted and burnished by hand. They're also made in Italy.

It might be a little overpriced, but thats the case with all 'fashion' brands.

I wouldn't go that far. There are some very opinionated folk on here and also circles within groups within mysteries within enigmas. I own several pair of HB shoes and 1 pair of their suede chelseas and never a problem. They are not the highest quality (or priced as such) but I certainly wouldn't call them crap.

I wouldn't go with Hugo Boss. With $400, I'd rather buy Septiemer Largeur, Meermin or Herringshoes classic. And with a little more, I could reach a Carmina :)

No, absence of forum approval need not be cause for alarm, but broadly speaking, and especially when it comes to shoes, the forum hive mind tends to sniff out the stuff that gives you the best bang for buck, sift the wheat from the chaff.

As for your second statement, I'm not sure of your math. Let me quote an American blogger:

Pricing: I think pricing is what throws many people off. Many of the blogs will tell you that you will pay about $200 shipped and they are telling the truth. The problem is when a customer goes to the Meermin site and converts the euro to usd the numbers don’t add up, or the added on shipping confuses them as to the total price.

Here is the break down

* The listed price for the shoes is 150eu. (VAT tax included). As we are ordering to the US we are excluded from the VAT tax. This means you do not have to pay 18% (equal to 22,9eu) which is what the VAT tax is. This has now brought the cost down to 127,1eu.

* Now add shipping which is 35eu. This brings you up to 162,1eu.* Now this was where I pulled up a currency conversion online (two different ones to be sure) and did the conversion to usd. As of right now that amount is $197.08. Also the shipping is relatively fast considering where the package is coming from. To NY it takes about 3-4 business days.
