Have you consistently used an eliptical?

If you did, and did it with less resistance to prevent more muscle gain as would occur with higher resistances, did you notice your legs getting thinner? the reason i ask is because my thighs are pretty big from cycling but i want to cut down on that and do a lot of low resistance eliptical work to try to get them smaller. Just want some feedback on how effective it may be at acheiving this. I know long distance running can make you skinny like that but i'm not sure about elipticals and i can't really run right now (back issues)./

Question that may need to be answered: will you be continuing with the cycling at the same levels as before?

I honestly don't know what your goal is; long distance running only thins out your leg if you're also maintaining a caloric deficit, thus losing bodyweight as well. If that's what you want, any type of cardio would suffice. (provided you do enough upper body work to make sure any muscle loss in this area is neglible)

I use eliptical machine quite often on my off days from weight lifting, but not at low resistance (more like 75% max resistance for ~35-40min). I've been actually bulking for the last few months; there seems to be no noticable effect on muscle gain from eliptical work AFAIK.

If your not using resistance on the eliptical then your really not getting a good workout because momentum ends up doing a lot of the work.

I want to use resistance but not at such a low RPM that it is more muscle building. I just wantt o get my thighs skinnier and i won't be cycling anymore.

Eliptical seems to bother my heels. It's hard to keep your feet totally flat, but it's also hard to use your feet to push off like you would running or biking -- you get stuck in limbo and pressure builds up.

A sit-down bike with a back rest (recumbant... sp?) might be better.

How about walking?
