Need fitting advice

Being new to dressing "nice", I would appreciate if members would give me some advice on how clothes are supposed to "fit".

Does this shirt look like it fits "well", and if not, what alternations should I get and what is the average cost of these alterations?

As for the pants, does the pants look like it needs to be shorted (it does not touch the ground but it looks like it's bunched up between the shoe and my waist)?

The shirt needs to be taken in at the waist (will run you down about 20 to 30 dollars, depending on your locale). Pants are slightly too long. They should be hemmed so that when you're standing straight, they just about touch your shoelaces (err on the side of "too long"). Tie knot is monstrous (do a search for "four in hand", and make the knot about half the size of your current one), and the tie is also too short (it should reach to your waistband, or at most an inch or so further up).

Thanks for the advice! I'll go get everything fixed up right now.

But what about the sleeves? Are they supposed to be that length or should they be shorter and less bunched up?

They look a bit long, but your posture makes it hard to say. The general rule is that, when unbuttoned, the sleeves should reach to the web between your thumb and index finger. Whether they are too full or not is up to you to decide. Neapolitans like a full sleeve (with a somewhat slim body), so it's definitely a kosher look if you like it.

The sleeves shouldn't extend quite as far as Ivar suggests.

One more thing: wash the shirt a few times before having it altered, because that will shrink it somewhat.

You are young and in a boarding house, I wouldn't worry too much about proper fit. However, the outfit you posted is wrong everywhere, not just the fit but also the anesthetics issue. Where do you want me to start?

You sure you read me correctly?
