Forgive the necro, but I have just bought a pair of 348 lasted C+Js (the Alex wholecuts which are fantastic). I haven't bought the trees yet, and I am somewhat concerned about the moisture-blocking treated wood as I work long days, and my feet tend to get pretty sweaty sometimes. I also live in London, which doesn't help with the moisture situation.
Has anyone given further consideration to the possibility of removing the varnish? The dremmel idea sounds like it might work quite well. I expect the coat of varnish would be thin enough so that it could be removed without affecting the shape/size of the tree to any significant extent.
