I think you're right on reflection. If you're a low cash player, case the joint and decide if you can join. If you get caught out, order a beer and an appetizer and eat Ramen when you get home.

OMG, my father Sunday.

Dinner at his house with my sister. She mentions putting an addition on to the house. Within 3 seconds he was on her about how expensive it is. So we wink winked and started to escalate with more and more expensive and elaborate options, while with each he became more and more aggravated culminating in my sister's suggestion "what about putting an elevator in, would that increase the value?". At this point he stood up at the table and knocked his knuckle on the wood and told us we were reckless people.

When spending comes up around the man he just goes red. He still doesn't realize we were taking the mickey out of him.
