Bow tie choice

Thread Starter

I'm going to a wedding of two very stylish friends and was thinking it would be a good opportunity to wear my tuxedo instead of a suit and tie. I plan on wearing a shawl collar black tuxedo and was also planning to wear the matching black bow tie.

However...should I be wearing a different color bow tie? I'm not in the wedding - would it be odd to go "that formal"? Should I instead go for a non-black bow tie? What is the etiquette here?

Wear a suit.

Unless it's specified as black tie, you want to wear a suit. You don't want to outshine the groom, let alone the bride.

Are they requesting their guests show up in tuxes? If not, I say go with the suit. Your friends may be stylish, but you can still look quite stylish in a suit.

I am thinking it may be another groom. In which case, I really cannot say, yet I am intrigued.

What? Like a polygamous wedding? 2 grooms, 1 bride..... uhoh.gif

I think he means two grooms as opposed to a bride and a groom. I still don't think you, as a guest, want to look better than either member of the wedding party.

If the wedding party is wearing suits so too MUST you. It is the height of arrogance to present yourself as something superior.

That is good - I may save this quote.

Tux is just a suit for evenings. Wear yours with a black bow tie.
