Losing weight simply by eating until you're not hungry rather than full.

Has anyone had success with this? I've been doing this for about a week now, and I've lost three pounds. I never eat junk food or drink soda, I think I just eat too much food.

Right now I'm 6'2 167 lbs. Do you think it's possible to lose more weight than that, or do I need to start exercising more and stuff? I'm a fairly skinny guy besides a bit of pudge around my stomach.

I always do this. I don't understand why people keep eating beyond what they need. Also, eat more slowly. You can enjoy the food for just as long as people who hork down a huge amount, if you just chew it for longer. And it's better for your digestion, anyway. There is no shame in taking leftovers home, and with the portion sizes at some places, if you are under 200 lbs eating all of it is really unnecessary.

I had a minor procedure done on my mouth once a few years ago and my tongue was so sore that it was unpleasant to eat for about a week. So, I only ate when I was really hungry and stopped when my hunger was gone. I lost about 5 pounds in that week. To answer j's question, the reason I don't do that all the time is simply habit. I tend to eat quickly and it's a very hard habit to break. I also love food and it's hard not to clean my plate when the food is good, even if I'm eating past the point of hunger.

The New York Times frequently has articles on the science of overeating. Basically it's human nature to eat all of what one is served, unless the taste or amount is sickening. If you are serving yourself, obviously you have many different ways to control how much you eat. One idea is to limit variety, although that risks limiting the range of nutrients you consume. What j says works. If one is slim except around the waist, it usually suggests adding muscle mass to burn off the fat.

So, all I'd really need to do is start lifting and the fat should come off?

That's quite unhealthy..I mean I could simply eat a doughnut and feel not hungry, but that's not good calories. I say you start eating "correctly" and start doing some cardio if getting lean is your goal..

I am in college. Allow me to explain how I eat: I eat so that I may survive. I do it as frequently as I can without having to eat cafeteria/dining hall food. This generally translates to ~1-2 meals a day.

sounds like a decent plan, but isn't 6'2" and 165lbs kinda slim to begin with?

I agree, I think the OP needs to do some weight work along with cardio to avoid the skinny fat trap.

you should be eating frequently enough so that you never really feel hungry anyways.

I geuss it is human nature, but then so is reproducing as much as possible; dont go crazy with it. I dont know, if you eat until full everyday and have an active lifestyle and a fit body, then go for it. If youre fat, stop.
Personally, I only eat till Im full maybe once a week, like at a restaraunt. 2-3 small meals a day is enough for me, I dont feel hungry much, I just eat when I have the time.

oh im also 6'2 / 165 lbs .. how about that.

I usually don't eat unless I really feel hungry. When I do feel hungry I eat whatever I want. Rarely do I eat until I actually feel full, I usually just eat enough so that I'm not hungry anymore. It works for me, my weight fluctuates by around 5 to 10 pounds depending on the sorts of things I feel like eating, but it hasn't gone more than +10 since I was a literally starving college student (one meal a day for several months when I really had no money).

I eat about 6-7 times a day. In fact, I'm currently hungry. BRB

you have to get over the "clean plate" mentality. a lot of us when we were kids were forced to eat everything on our plate. now, it's turned into an unhealthy habit. it's ok to throw away food. it's ok to put half eaten plates in the fridge to nuke later. it's ok to say you've had enough!

i never take home food and i never finish my plate at dinner. when my friends say that cliched line "think of all the starving children in africa" i say "think of all the heart disease in america"
