MTO thread idea but the help from administartion is required.

Hi site owners, moderators, and forum members,

Is it possible to create some sticky thread for MTO orders. For example one for EG, one for Carmina and one for G&G. In these threads forum members could discuss MTO make ups and "collect" that magic number of buyers necessary to avoid MTO fees. The purpose of these threads will be strictly for designing and placing MTO orders nothing more. As of know when someone pitches an idea for MTO make up of shoes or boots we are all over the place either in the appreciation threads or the affiliate thread. This type of arraignment could also helo0p affiliates in gauging the interest for a particular model.

I don't think the forum uses stickies, but the idea for the thread is a good one.

I'd just like to see a separate forum entirely for these threads since I often miss out on MTO, group buys, etc. Put it under classifieds and have people categorize them as MC or SW&D or Other...

Using a thread for each is worse since there might be several G&G orders going or a couple of different models.

It seems to me that the best place to discuss a XXX MTO is in a "XXX-whatever" thread - as that will also draw on information from people who are familiar with XXX but who may not be interested in the particular MTO, and as anyone who *really* wants a XXX-MTO will be in that thread already.

However, I do think a consolidated thread could be useful to advertise what MTOs have been discussed and agreed on, and are currently active. Just one post for each by the MTO-organizer with the key details and a link to the relevant thread. That would spread the information, and give others a chance to join in the order, but still keep the discussions in separate more relevant threads. It would also provide a readily accessible, and  list of the MTOs inspired by the forum.

Even better might be to have someone post in the thread once the MTO has reached 50% of the minimum required number. That way there could also be a record of which ideas for MTOs fizzled out and never made it (but were not totally left field in the first place - hence the 50% requirement ....).

Another reason for these threads is a possibility of piggybacking on retailers orders. For example I know Skoaktiebolaget ( I am really proud of myself for learning how to spell this instead of copying and pasting) has ordered EG Westminsters in 3 different color but only up to size 10. Say if you had liked the color and the model of the shoe and you wear an odd size like 13 you could piggyback on the the store's order, you would avoid the MTO fee and it would not cost the store anything extra to order a pair of shoes in the size they normally would not. This way everybody is happy and you really do not need to get 6 people to sign up for the same shoe.

I 100% agree with this. I am a bigger size that retailers often times don't pick up. I actually also was considering posting your exact general idea this morning, so I am on board. I missed out on a Epaulet MTO with Carmina that was literally the exact shoe I have been looking for/wanting for a long time (a midnight blue wholecut). I doubt it'll pop up again any time soon and am pretty bummed I missed it.

One way to do it would be just to start a thread along the lines of "MTO Group Suggestions," as sort of a clearinghouse, and then SF users can subscribe to that specific thread. I think having one dedicated to each brand might impede the thread from picking up enough traction to get some purchase around here. Also, that way there's more flexibility for the possible orders -- e.g. if someone wants EGs but could be persuaded to go Carmina, or vice versa, it can all stay in the same thread.

I really like this idea and would love to get it going soon. If anyone has any other ideas on how to get it rolling, bring 'em on out...
