Red Wing Iron Rangers vs. Wolverine 1000 Miles - Page 2

I've got brown 1k's, RWIRs (Both about 3 years old) black 1k's and Cigar beckmans. (about 4 months old) I'll check sizes but if I remember right The 1k's run at least a half size bigger than the IR's. I'll try to put some side by side pics together. Fwiw the Iron Rangers will outlast the 1k's by a long way. The leather sole seems to wear out pretty quick on the 1k's whereas the cork nitrile on the IR's is seemingly invincible! Wolves are a lot more comfortable though. (and a lot more expensive!)

Thanks Ozzy,

 

what about the overall look, do you think the 1Ks are alot more dressy than the IR? I want a rugged look so if I don't polish and beat up the 1Ks do you think I can get a rugged work boot look? I think they are a little too low cut to look like a work boot, more like a hybrid dress boot?

I would say if you want rugged go with the IRs. All you'll do by not looking after the 1ks is ruin them. I agree with you that they're more of a dress boot. I actually wear mine to the office while my IRs are strictly down the pub boots. I love both tho!

ahh thank you so much for your time taking the comparison pics ozzy!

 

I've been looking all over the place to see the shaft height of the wolvs and they are shorter and more dressy, but i think they look good if not polished and cleaned. how do they fit with jeans? is it the same or are the wolvs slimmer?

Hi, they're lower in the toe box and a little slimmer but look superb with jeans with the benefit of being smart with dressier pants too. IMO the red wings are too bulky to be worn dressed up (even the Beckmans) I'll try to get some fit pics with jeans but I'm not gonna subject myself to the ridicule of asking my wife, sorry!!
Word of warning, the leather sole on the 1k has a weird quality of being REALLY slippy in the wet especially on things like granite paving on sidewalks

P.s if you get the 1ks don't just let them go to rack and ruin! The leather is of much higher quality than the wings IMO and deserves at least an occasional brush and some leather cream. I didn't really look after mine for a couple of years and kinda regret that
