How much is major? I know a few fernet cocktails, but they're few and far between. Fernet either dominates or plays a supporting role in small quantities.

(Fernet + coke and fernet + ginger are good, but I assume you mean something more than a highball.)

For SVB:

 

 

Very few drinks use Fernet as a major pour, since it's such a dominant flavour. However, there are plenty of good drinks with fernet. Have a look at the Hanky Panky (Gin, Sweet Vermouth, Fernet), Fanciulli (Same with Bourbon instead of gin), Toronto (Rye/Cognac, Sugar, Angostura, Fernet). If your brave you can try an equal parts mix of sweet vermouth and fernet.

Recently been drinking a lot of Balvenie 15 year single cask. Not a fan of the Yamazaki 12 year, though I have heard wonderful things about the 25 year.

If you want to try sake, Karatamba (Honjouzo) and Gekkeikan Horin (Daiginjo) are two of my personal favorites. I hate getting sake hot though, since most places serve it too hot, and it kills the flavor profile.

For summer, you can also try a sake mojito :
2 parts sake
2 parts cava/prosecco
1 part simple syrup (or play around with agave/cane sugar)
6-8 mint leaves
1/2 lime

Muddle mint/lime/simple syrup, add ice/sake/cava or prosecco. Mix very briefly, unless you want a flat mojito. Slightly less calories than traditional mojito, so you can try to sell that to the lady friends.

Being in Maine we have an impressive list of microbrews and a great selection of places to drink them.

This was my pick for the winter - one of many breweries trying to break the stigma attached with canned beer.

the beverage inside is a super dark stout - think drinking an alcoholic Godiva bar. the can is designed in homage to Muhammad Ali's knockout career (harhar).

This never reaches the scarier abvs that imperials often do but I think it clocks in at just under 7%.



I must say one of my favorite parts of winter is the seasonal beer selection - I like dark and malty. excited for spring nonetheless.

I just made one of these to celebrate the foot of snow we got today in seasonal fashion, using tequila recommended by my local liquor store clerk, who knows me on a first name basis, which is either awesome or alarming or both.

Shit, I'm much more of a beer guy than anything, but PNW has amazing microbrew - and as far as porters/ stouts go, it's hard to find one that's too bad... Looking forward to recipes in here.

Bourbon drinker here looking to get more into scotch.  The problem is, most of the scotch I've tried so far I don't really care for and for the price of an midrange scotch, I can get a great bourbon.  Hands down the best scotch I've had so far is Macallan 12.  I've also tried cutty sark and johnnie red (both are swill), johnnie black and green (ok but way overpriced for what they are), dalwhinne (too light on the pallet), and oban (not bad, but I probably wouldn't buy another bottle).  What would you experienced scotch drinkers recommend for me to try, something in the $50-70 range.

Crater Lake gin is great, probably as good as Hendricks, but 2/3s the price. The vodka from the same distillery is also great. And if you're not drinking Fevertree tonic, you're doing it wrong. Switching to high quality tonic makes a gin and tonic so much better.

Beyond that,
Famous Grouse for blended scotch.
Evan Williams over Jack Daniels.
Chartreuse for finishing off your evening
Lagunitas, especially the Pale Ale for beer.
And right now, Russian vodka for everything. Because it's the only thing that's affordable in this damn country.

Toronto is great. A small shot of fernet after a heavy meal can be very nice.
