Very few drinks use Fernet as a major pour, since it's such a dominant flavour. However, there are plenty of good drinks with fernet. Have a look at the Hanky Panky (Gin, Sweet Vermouth, Fernet), Fanciulli (Same with Bourbon instead of gin), Toronto (Rye/Cognac, Sugar, Angostura, Fernet, Sweet Vermouth). If your brave you can try an equal parts mix of sweet vermouth and fernet.
Toronto is great. A small shot of fernet after a heavy meal can be very nice.
Yeah, going to try out a Toronto tonight; we have everything we need for it. We have fernet usually as you're suggesting (shot after a meal) but I'm definitely interested to see how it works in a cocktail.
