Gentlemen,
I have been an avid reader of Style Forum and thoroughly enjoying my education. I am currently living in Bangkok and have been considering extending my stay for at least a year longer. The city and country definitely has perks and drawbacks, but it suits me quiet nicely. The only unsurmountable obstacle I have faced thus far is proper attire for this climate.
I am an independent businessman and routinely visit an individual client's office. Typical clients are of high social status of both local Thai and Western decent. Dress varies from chinos and short sleeve to more formal suits with optional tie.
My difficulty comes in identifying an appropriate style for my body type and location. I am a big man by western standards and especially by Asian standards. I Caucasian, standing 6'3” with a weight of 260lbs. Admittedly, I am a little softer around the midsection than I could be but not entirely round.
The question I have for all of you who are in the know, what should I be aiming for in a daily business wardrobe? I would like to be comfortable in this hot, humid environment and also project a strong but approachable and friendly presence. By that, I mean emphasizing my stature without being over dominating.
My first thoughts are to lean into linen but I cannot overcome the mind set that 1) All linen is white(ish) 2) big men look REALLY bad in light colors.
Any thoughts, recommendations or more specifically, reference photos that you could recommend would be most helpful.
I am very excited about exploring tropical style for a large man in a country that affords me the opportunity to dress well. More importantly, I'm looking forward to see how the community would approach my style goals.
And before it comes up, evening attire can/should be addressed in a separate post.
Thanks in advance for the feedback!
