its up to you..
but if you cut them, they'll start to unravel and the leather patch will eventually come off, which is what happened to mine.

American Apparel

on the clothing totem pole, i'd put it alongside Uniqlo and Muji as it's a brand a lot of people turn to basics. Wouldn't really lump it with high street stuff like H&M or Zara because unlike those brands, there's not really any designs to the stuff. Just plain, non-logoed items.

Can jeans be taken in at the waist? If yes, is it fairly easy?

Having wide hips its almost impossible to get slim jeans in the legs, and straight ends up baggy because i have to size up for tht top block.

I got a pair of jeans that fir perfect in the legs but theyre too wide at the waist, can anything be done about that?

I'm a firm believer in the school of thought that jeans should not be altered in the waist. Even hemming i am not so much a fan of...but taking them in the waist is not easy. People have probably had them done, but to me it totally ***** the look up...they aren't like tailored pants.

+1

I've had jeans tapered from knees down a long time ago that turned out ok, and it's been done by a few regulars on this forum, but that's probably the only real tailoring that can be done to jeans. and even then I'd say if it doesnt fit then you must resist

It obviously makes sense that they come in different sizes, but you are essentially dealing with a bunch of sewn together cotton. Whats the harm in altering it however you like?

They're not designed in the same way as regular trousers, which have extra material and a place to put extra material if you want to change the waist size. Jeans don't have that, so it will change the pocket position and shape of the seat if you do it.

Ok I just got really confused. I just measured my actual waist for the first time. Turns out I am a 35. I have never owned a pair of jeans above a 33. I have a pair of 31 RRDS. From what I know Nudies are tagged true to size. Therefore a 31 is a 31. How is it then I fit comfortable as a 35 into these?

Also I have a pair of APC NS size 30 that I have only worn around the house for a few hours. As you know and APC NS 30 should be 32 true waist. I measured it and it is actually 35.

I thought I had all this sizing stuff down. I guess not. Can someone help me understand this before I buy my next pair of jean? Thanks.

(OK so I was re-educated that Nudies are NOT true to size. That is misinformation)

I've always used my natural waist (belly around naval) for jeans, which is 31". I fit perfectly in the seat and thighs into 30s/31s. Though my actual waist (part where jeans are usually worn) is 34".

Each people are gonna be different. Those with bigger hip ratios, beer bellies, etc. It's always best to get opinions of how they stretch, then using those assumptions when trying them in stores.
