Button-up means you have to button the front to fasten it. Button-down refers to the collar points.

Tailoring - anyone know if a jacket that has a cotton shell with a filled lining (ok, weird description) can be altered? I'm pretty much guessing no, but thought I'd ask. This would be like a shop or garage style jacket that is cotton canvas with a filled (poly) lining...

Just about anything can be altered, including that.

I've read on the forums that some jeans are supposed to be worn "two sizes down." Does that mean 2 inches? Or since jeans usually go up in 2 inch increments, is "two sizes down" 4 inches down?

It means that if you're a 30, you get a 28 in those jeans instead.

+1, the ones that rule refers to are sized in 1-inch increments.

so i have been waiting forever for APC to reintroduce their overdyed black new standards. i got an email from them yesterday....they haven't done that, but have gone one step better - overdyed black cure and new cures, in stretch denim (2% elastane), exactly what i am looking for.

i'm not sure if and when these went into retail stores or for sale online, but was just wondering if anyone had any experience with the sizing of these? i am a 30 waist, and fit 27 in new standards.

the mens cure are at http://www.apc.fr/eu/en/fiche_articl...f=1C024312169H and are sized from 28 upwards.

the womens new cure are at http://www.apc.fr/eu/en/fiche_articl...f=1C024312300F and are available from size 25 through 30.

are they...
true to size?
true to APC raw size (ie 2/3 down)...?

cheers

Are RRL sizing always off? Im looking at some canvas pants that are tagged 32x34. Is that to be trusted or will they end upp 36x32 instead?

and yes, I asked the seller but he couldnt provide real mesurements for some reason...

Already been answered, but to elaborate: most of the jeans discussed here go up/down 1 inch at a time in waist measurements--so for example, you can get a pair of Studio D'Artisans in a 29 waist, a 30, a 31, a 32... etc. The "two sizes down" rule really only applies to APCs, where for example if you're normally a 30 waist (like me), a pair of APC New Standards tagged size 38 will fit comfortably after a little stretching. I can't think of any other jeans I've worn that I'd size down two in, though. Maybe other members have different opinions.

very variable, i think. some are seriously off, and some are about right. get measurements, and if the seller won't provide them, walk away.

yeah, i know the feeling. my rrl slim bootcuts (still nwt) are supposedly the from the excellent batch, and fit perfectly in the thigh, and hip area. and then somehow blow out such that they're 2 inches too big in the waist. very frustrating. i'm seriously toying with the idea of having then taking in, and have some ideas on how to pull that off without messing up the back pocket balance.....
