Um.. buying jeans that are a bit too long and then hemming them is standard practice around here. And since RB11 is a straight leg (don't hold me to that) then the hem would hardly change the cut at all.

What is the level of stretch on Dior MIJ. Is it too extreme sizing down 2 from true waist?
Vanity sized and stretches slightly more than most jeans so with 21cms mij you can probably get away with sizing down 2. With 19cms size down 1 for normal slim fit, 2 for skinny fit.

I'm an ex A&F shopper who has seen the folly of his ways and I'm in dire need of some help. I've been lurking in the denim threads for the last week and saw alot of things i liked, specifically the nudie and apc slim fits. My question is this: I'm about 5'8" 160 with a 30" waist (I'm not sure if this is my "true" size or not, but every pair of jeans i've purchased from stores like A&F, AE, etc have been 30s with either 30, or 32 inseam) and relatively physically fit. My legs are somewhat thick and muscular, my thighs are roughly 20" give or take a 1/4 inch. Am I not thin enough/too short to pull off a pair of slim jims or anything comparable? If so, is there a way for me to emulate the shape (for lack of a better term) of these jeans? And if there isn't, what would you guys suggest for me? I'm alittle hesitant about purchasing a 250 dollar pair of jeans that'd look weird on me, so your input would be greatly appreciated.

Hey HypnoToad, Welcome to the forum! The thigh measurement you specify (20") is plenty slim to fit into the vast majority of jeans discussed on this forum -- certainly the Nudie SJ and the APC NS. And there is no such thing as "too short" for a particualr inseam of denim: all you have to do is take it to the tailor for a $10 hemming. Or, with slim jeans, many guys prefer to simply let the extra denim stack up near the hem. Cuffing is also an option.

To add to what Asch said, if you live in a metropolitan area you might want to find a boutique near you with a stocklist mimicking our suggestions so you can try different cuts for yourself. The next best thing is a forum affiliate with a liberal return policy.

HypnoToad, one last thing to mention is that if you're a 30 in A&F, for example, it may very well be that your "true" waist size is larger than 30. I'm not familiar with A&F and AE's sizing in particular, but if it's anything like GAP/BR/etc, they're vanity sized. I wear a 30 or the equivalent in most Euro/Japanese/boutique/etc brands, but I almost invariably have to size down to 29 (or even 28 once... which is APC-level stupid) in a lot of the larger American chains. All this just to say that you definitely want to actually try on the clothes you'll probably find recommended here before you buy from any place without a return policy.

yes

on a size 32:

thin finn is 7" across hem
slim jim is about 8"

the slim jim isn't a skinny jean, but it is slimmer than a normal 501 style cut

the thin finn is a skinny jean, but if you get your actual waist (which will be 1" larger than actual waist) it fits really good without being skintight. Get 1" down from actual waist for skintight look

to me, the slim jim doesnt look/feel that slim and prefer the Thin Finn

^^^ What he said. I've tried on the Jims thinking it was exactly what I was looking for in a jean. Sadly disappointed. TF's are the skinny jean.

I really like the look of the Crate Dobbs fit. I am just apprehensive about the pockets, i keep my hands in my pockets 87% of the time. Will i be able to fit my hands into the pocket up to my wrists? I realize to some something like this might seem trivial, but because this would be my first large denim purchase its kind of a big deal.

Also, the only affiliate which carries Crate is out. Are there any other resources for someone looking to buy crate? I've checked back at their website periodically and unless there is some trick to getting beyond the title screen there is nothing there.

thx

I posted this earlier, but yeah no one said anything...
